I'd seen this episode a few times and always thought hipster waiter looked familiar, turns out he is the actor that played Gareth the leader of Terminus on Walking Dead.

Coming from someone who loves Boyd as well, it has to mentioned that Boyd's biggest flaw is that his unpredictability has a long history of alienating those close to him. His father, Johnny, Devil, and Raylan are all obvious examples. It does very well at keeping Boyd alive, but it also means that Raylan isn't wrong when he states that Boyd has left a trail of dead in his wake. I mean minutes before Ava shot him he decided to out Katherine's scheme to Markham just for shits and giggles.

On top of that Boyd is super impulsive as well and despite everything is not a long term thinker. He can devise immediate solutions to his problems, but with the exception of killing Picker, they always come back to bite him in the ass. Him robbing Dickie, using Tonin's clout to bully the Clover Hill elites, attacking Paxton, asking his old Nazi buddy to look after Ava, taking in the Crowes even after their first spat, killing Dewie before even the threat of him being turned by the law is even real, etc.
