Missed the extra credit scene/alternate ending while reacting, but did watch afterward. Much preferred the "happy" ending lol

"This is a really shit idea. You know why? Cause it's REALLY OBVIOUSLY a shit idea." I use that line in everyday life as often as I possibly can. Pure gold.

I love this film, Danny Boyle's inventive take on the zombie genre. His films are engrossing tales of tight knit groups of people in bleak situations, this is one of the most hopeful ones. It also jump started the popularity of the infected trope in modern zombie films. The virus that causes people to go insane or die and become rabid, homicidally violent, fast moving monsters rather than the shambling, undead hordes of the past. This film I believe was Cillian Murphy's breakout role, before he was the Scarecrow, Inception and of course Tommy Shelby. Naomi Harris who played Selena was splendid and she went on to be in two of The Pirates of the Caribbean films and played Moneypenny in Skyfall & Spectre. Our man Brendan Gleeson always a joy to see and the film's villain Major Henry West, played with gravitas and menace by Christopher Eccleston not Ralph Fiennes. He was the Reverend in The Leftovers if that helps Jimmy. Jim really does go through a great character journey from confused, disheveled and helpless to a hardened bad ass who manages to take out the entire squad of army soldiers with help from Hannah & Mailer. Who would of thought that infected soldier would of been so helpful taking out 4 soldiers including West. The film is almost 20 years old but still enjoyable to watch, it was made on a modest budget with mostly untested actors but it's become a cult classic. The sequel does do some interesting things but it's far too depressing and grim for my taste.
