Cadmus Lochlan

These were some good episodes. Even in his final moments, Asher is still Asher. And with Lucrecia, although she was still the scheming demon, she clearly had gone crazy. We thought it was an act, but not so much it seems.

oh no! please don't put them into one video Jimmy. I can't download the file, it's too big 😨 - and it would probably take hours 😭😭😭

Ninaofthe90s

okay...somehow I just got it to play the video. That usually never works...but thank god it does now. I can watch it 😍😍

You've given us a lot of content this weekend Jimmy, two episodes of Justified, S2 premiere of Ozark, Umbrella Academy, Avatar & the last two episodes of Vengeance. Unexpected Bounty, but well received.

Being as you seen the episodes Monsters & Wrath of the Gods, I won't attempt a lengthy review but just give my thoughts on them and the season as a whole. Vengeance is a really stellar season of Spartacus, it was also the first one I watched week to week. It did a lot to quell fears about the quality of the show after a long hiatus and the replacement of the actor playing Spartacus.

Andy will forever be Spartacus, but Liam did an admirable performance taking on the character. Full of conviction, bravery, vulnerability and integrity. I understand why you're not sold on him yet Jimmy, but in the final season I feel Liam does grow into the role nicely.

The penultimate and finale were a great one two punch to end the season. All the double crosses and betrayals were enjoyable, Lucretia manoeuvers Seppia to kill Glaber only for Ilithyia to come in clutch and kill the girl and save the man who left her for dead. We see they really do love each other in a wonderfully twisted way. These two arrogant romans becoming ruthless, murderous monsters is great, not as great as Batiatus & Lucretia, but a close second.

The attack on the Temple with the catapults raining down fireballs was wonderfully done especially Varinius getting his face burned off. The rebels are forced to flee up Vesuvius with Fulco, the old lady Camila & Oenomaus' eye all casualties before that. The finale continues raising the stakes as everyone is potentially for the afterlife.

The initial skirmish between the Rebels & Romans/Ashur's gang is pretty tense but everyone mostly is whole until Salvius throws an axe at Spartacus and gets Mira in the chest. The first of many deaths, it's not Spartacus unless someone close to him dies. She was a fan favourite but her arc had reached an end, Mira & Spartacus being at peace with each other.

The finale is a game changer as it effectively sweeps the board clean of antagonists. Six main characters die in the episode, two thirds of the entire main cast. It's a very ballsy move, with Ashur finally getting his courtesy of Naevia. Oenomaus falling in battle with the Egyptian but healing his bond with Gannicus before. The big reveal with Lucretia taking Ilithyia's baby is also one of the best things the show did.

You never quite know what Lucretia is planning, but you should always be wary. She was severely traumatized at the end of season one, mind shattered by her horrific experience. Yet you think that she regains some of her sanity by season's end. Then you find out it was all an act to get Ilithyia alone and take her baby for herself. Cutting it out of Ilithyia's womb and carrying it to the afterlife as she hurls herself and newborn child off the cliff. Both of these snakes finally expire as Ilithyia most likely bleeds out at the bottom of the House she so despised.

Finally we see Spartacus and the Rebels enact the famous strategy that won them the Battle of Vesuvius. Climbing down vines to escape the mountain catching the Romans unaware, turning their weapons against them and sending them fleeing back to the Temple. Where they are finally defeated in satisfying fashion & Spartacus gets vengeance for Mira by dashing Salvius' head upon a beam.

He has a taught, frenzied duel with Glaber with fortune finally shifting in the Thracian's favor as he thrusts his sword into Glaber's chest. Spartacus throwing his own words back at him when he was but a slave in the House of Batiatus. Glaber's beaten but warns Spartacus that he has unleashed the fury of Rome, for now legions will be sent to destroy the slave that has defied the mighty Republic.

Anonymous

Spartacus knows that was always inevitable but Glaber won't be around to see it as he finally completes his vengeance for his wife Sura's death. Thrusting his sword through Glaber's mouth, the most deadly deep throat ever as the Praetor who has been his constant nemesis finally is slain by his hand.

Spartacus and his band of rebels having achieved the impossible now move to become an army as they face the threat of Rome to come as free men & women. Great season, enjoyed rewatching it all with you Jimmy. Bring on War of the Damned, thanks man and take care, peace.

I definitely feel like Liam comes into his role as Spartacus in season 3, so maybe you'll have that to look forward to. This was a good season and a pretty decent battle. My only regret is that Oenomaus died too soon. Would have liked to see him continue into season 3. They just didn't use him enough. Either way, getting killed by the Egyptian makes sense, nobody else would have been able to. I just wish he had gotten the kill instead of Gannicus. Though, I like that Gannicus avenged him and I'm happy they forgave each other. Though, it's how the history goes that Oenomaus dies relatively early in the revolt. But it should have been a little time after this event. Loved the shot of Lucretia holding that knife covered in blood when the lightning strikes. Thanks Jimmy, good reaction as always. Enjoy your vacation.

Ninaofthe90s

what a fucking finale. They just killed 6 (!) main characters in one episode. Mira, Ashur, Lucretia, Illythia, Oenemäus and Glaber. Insane.
