Gods of the Arena is a great example of a Prequel series that adds to the overall story of Spartacus, rather than just telling us things we already knew. Batiatus said in Blood & Sand that his father loved him but never believed in him and that he was an unworthy son.

Anonymous

We discover that alot of that is true, but Titus did believe in his son at the end, he just didn't believe Lucretia was right for him. It turns out he was right, he just underestimated how terrible she was. Lucretia comes from nothing so she marrying Quintus was true love rather than social-political agreements. Thus when Titus came between them she wasn't going to let him stand in her way.

Poisoning him to get him out of Capua, then doing it again when he returned. Gaia's death and his treatment of Quintus pushed her to kill him and using Tullius' wine is inspired, he will blame Tullius and want to kill him. Two birds with one amphora, though she doesn't get out unscathed.

Melitta drinks the wine while having her goodbye tryst with Gannicus and then chokes to death on her own blood. Not to mention that Titus is no feeble old man, he would wrung the life from her if he was not already weakened by all that poison. Now the scene for the final conflict between Tullius and the House of Batiatus.

Quintus, Oenomaus and Gannicus all got reasons to see Tullius dead. This episode also showed the first time Crixus and Lucretia had sex, though it's a far cry from the secret trysts in Blood & Sand. Not to mention we see the Ashur we all know, using his underhanded tactics and deceitful nature to survive and costing Dagan an eye in the process. Naevia likely to get a promotion with Melitta's death to body slave, like my boy Santos who will become Quintus' body slave now.

Reckoning is a classic episode of Spartacus, a very punchy hour full of twists and revelations. The finale is going quite something for you to see, looking forward to that. Gratitude Jimmy and catch you later, peace.

Jimmy: this is your guy? Me: Yes. Yes he is.

Ninaofthe90s

This is your guy? The guy who killed another gladiator while wearing a blindfold!? Hell yeah!!! He's the best 😎 next to Crixus of course 😁 I'm a bit sad you dislike him so much.

Ninaofthe90s

Love Lucretia 🥰 she's probably my favorite character even though that's really difficult to decide for me. Top 3 for sure.

Ninaofthe90s

Quintus is ambitious but is willing to set that aside when it comes to leaving his wife. I love that about him. Lucretia might develop a thing for Crixus, but she truly loves her husband. They really are a villainous couple, but also a truly romantic one.

And thus why Doctore initially refuses Spartacus's gift of wine. Because of how his wife died. Amazing writing in this episode.

Cadmus Lochlan

considering he drugged the drink also, so when Doctore gets up the next morning angry, is makes sense. He could've died like his wife. But then seeing spartacus holding his wife made him step back, thinking to his own wife. It all makes sense.

While I think the show gets better along the way, nothing can compete with what they did as showrunners with Batiatus and Lucretia. Pure gold of characters.

Can't wait for finale, but even more excited for season 2.

Hey Jimmy your favorite episode was not the finale Kill Them All but the 1 b4 that where Spartacus beats the Romans with only wood swords and where Batiatus confronts Glaber about Ilythia killing Lycinia and as good as this episode was I still have to give the edge to season 1 episode 12 just too many great moments in that 1! And it also had Batiatus confronting Lucretia about Crixus, Asher exposing Crixus and Navia, Navia getting beaten up by Lucretia, Anameus finding about Barca`s death!
