Ninaofthe90s

Oh my god! Haven't seen the reaction yet, so I'm gonna post this up front. This is one of my top 20 favorite movies. I've always considered it a masterpiece since I have seen it in the cinema in 2008. I think I have seen it more than 50 times and I know the dialogue by heart. So many quotable lines. It's my kind of humor but at the same time it's actually a really depressing movie. I love how it makes me laugh and seconds later I'm crying. It's partly because I'm also struggling with depression and I can emphatize with Ray so much. Also how the mood changes from funny to sad within seconds. Or it's both at the same time. Really melancholic. Especially the score by Carter Burwell. And I love how this movie balances the humor and the sad stuff so well. It's just brilliantly written. And it's certainly Colin Farrell's best peformance. He's stunning in this movie. He's such an underrated actor. And so is Brendan Gleeson . And Ralph Fiennes of course is hilarious as Harry. One of my favorite performances of him. I don't know...this movie just makes me feel a lot. I can watch it over and over again - even if it's depressing. I hope you like it - and the more often you see it, the better it gets! I love this movie so much!!! ❤❤❤❤ Thanx for finally watching it 😀

When are we gonna watch this Drew? KEKW

Drew

One of the best movies I've seen. I saw a video where someone talks about how Bruges represents purgatory. The whole movie is about Ray being judged for what he did. Harry represents the side that believes you cannot come back from something like that, while Ken represents the side that believes in redemption. Ray at the end saying "I really hoped I wouldn't die" is massive because he has decided he is deserving of a second chance. The question the movie asks of the audience is whether YOU believe he deserves a second chance. Absolutely brilliant.

Ninaofthe90s

"And I really really hoped I wouldn't die." and this from a guy who spend the entire movie thinking about dying. Fucking tragic and beautiful.

And now of course I also recommend "Three Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri" (starring Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson, Peter Dinklage) - another movie written and directed by the brillant Martin McDonagh. He also made "Seven Psychopaths" - also with Colin Farrell and that one's pretty good too. In Bruges is my favorite out of the three but Three Billboards is probably more famous and it has won lots of awards (including best actress and best supporting actor). But since you loved In Bruges (I knew you would!!!) you definitely have to watch Three Billboards.

"YOU ARE AN INANIMATE FUCKING OBJECT!" Probably one the greatest insults I've every heard. Ralph Fiennes is just amazing in this role. (I also love the fact that Voldemort playes a guy named Harry btw) 😂

Ninaofthe90s

you have never seen Ralph Fiennes as a bad guy? Haven't you seen him as Voldemort in Harry Potter or even better as Amon Göth in Schindler's List? (he's so goddamn evil in Schindler's List).

JimmyMacram

Haven't seen any Harry Potter movie. And no to Schindler's List. The latter has been on my to do list (so to speak) forever.

Ninaofthe90s

oh ok 😀 yeah that's definitely a movie one has to watch - and then probably never watch again. I've seen Schindler's List in school and it kind of shaped me. It was also the first Ralph Fiennes movie I have ever watched. So in my memory he has always been evil 😂

TouchTheGarlic

Hell yes! One of my favourite movies, wasn't sure if it did well enough in the polls. Apparently it did. Such amazing writing, such amazing performances. Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes are all GOATs because of this movie IMO.

Ninaofthe90s

Sorry for writing so many comments - but I'm just so happy that you loved this movie so much 😍😎😍

One of the funniest and most quotable movies ever.

Ninaofthe90s

"I'm from Dublin. If I grew up on a farm and was retarded - Bruges might impress me. But I didn't so...it doesn't." lmao 😂😂

JimmyMacram

😂 Yeah it's really high on my list. One day I'll sit down and parse them all out.

Ninaofthe90s

I actually congratulate myself for being the one who suggested it 😂😂😂

You guys should 100% watch Six Shooter. It's a half hour short film Martin McDonagh made shortly before this with Brendan Gleeson and it's got a very similar feel to it. It's free to watch on YouTube.

Great job Nina. Truly one of the most awesome movies I've seen. So glad I was able to share it with Jimmy.

I'm so happy that Nina introduced US to this movie so WE can share it with others. I love the humor and humanity it makes us contemplate. Thinking hard about movies that hit as deep as this one did for me, and truly there are few. I love the entertainment of a Godzilla King of the monsters, but this is a different animal. For me, Touching the Void is also that "I HAVE to share" this with others movie. I know it's not the humor concept Ninaofthe90s, but it's a must see for you as well as Jimmy. Please watch Touching the Void.
