The livery deal went through in the bank; Steve owns the livery as of that point, he adds the "better give me that board" as an addendum so that he could have another shitty demeaning insulting thing to complain about re: Hostetler rather than shake his hand. So actually, as fucked up as it is, Steve kind of still wins. Hostetler killed himself inside Steve's livery. The Dan v. Captain Turner fight has been something I've been looking forward to you seeing :) It's not really an action show so when it has these bursts...and I was also super convinced Dan would die! It has ALL the hallmarks of "about to kill this character": The character got to speak more than they had in a while, the stakes made sense early in the season to hand Al another big loss, they gave Dan and Adams that little nod which seems like a conclusion to their being at odds and then friends over the course of last season...but like Dan said, "Going wrong is not the end of things!" and like before, he managed to come back from it going wrong again! Adams is also one of my favorite characters; love him on Lost, love him here. I also love how cool looking he becomes! He starts off kind of dopey looking in season 1 when clean shaven with his silly top hat and Al telling him to cut his hair, but now he's in this clean looking light suit with that awesome huge beard and he just looks like I'd want to look if I was an old west gunslinger. I also love how Al always uses him for the "acting" jobs, and how well Titus Welliver at acting like a character who is only an OKAY actor himself within the show, but isn't bad; it's subtle. Like when Adams pretends to be angry at Al and to have met someone from Montana when they meet with Commisioner Jarry, Adams is clearly pretending but also not so clearly it seems he's bad at it. Again when pretends with Hearst to be disloyal, though it seems to me Hearst sees through it. Adams worst acting job was of course when Al had him pretend to not want that house he fixed up anymore so Sol would buy it, and even Trixie commented on how bad his performance was, but that was because his heart wasn't in it because he wanted the house! And agree that Ellsworth is a great dude; you said last episode I think that Joanie is the only truly good person. I think Ellsworth is too. Sure, Ellsworth was willing to allow a murder to be covered up in season 1, but Joanie did the same in season 2, so I we can't hold that against them. Self-preservation is reasonable, especially since it was after the fact; it's not like they allowed a murder, they just are okay that justice couldn't be served. Which is a sad but reasonable position in the "wild west" Deadwood, even though it's on the verge of legal legitimacy.
