Deadwood REACTION - 3x1'.mp4

Michael

And now we see yet another actor playing a 2nd role, though both roles far more minor. Much like Garrett Dillahunt playing Jack McCall in season 1 and Francis Wolcott in season 2, the actor Dan Hildebrand appears here in 3x1 as over-the-top pompous and scripture loving hotelier Shaughnessy. In the very first episode of Deadwood, 1x1, he played Tim Driscoll, the drunken Irish fellow who sold Brom Garrett the gold claim that is so central to the show and who was killed by Dan in that same episode. He also was in Game of Thrones, playing Unsullied salesman/slaver/piece of toast Kraznys Mo Nakloz. And I totally agree Jimmy; sort of how you said at the end of season 1 that the "Bullock becomes sheriff" payoff kind of built itself subtly in the back of your mind and made sense, somehow in a similar way the Hearst v. Al/Seth over the fate of Deadwood makes immediate sense as a conflict as if it was set up from the beginning. In a way it was, just more generally...the notion that once the community solidified into something real, outside interests would attempt to devour it like locusts has been said in small ways by Al all along, just now it is finally given a face in Hearst (after a season with his sort of Herald of Galactus: Wolcott).
