I wanna thank you for these reactions. Some might not agree with me, but I enjoyed them very much. For me this is the most depressing show I have ever seen. I suffer from major depression so...watching this wasn't the best idea of course. But at the same time I knew I had to watch it, so I did. Even though I was weeping all the way through. It was a horrible week. But watching it again with you was better than watching it alone. This is by no means one of my favorite shows. (Favorite means I can watch it over and over again, like Sherlock, Mad Men or Lost). But it's certainly one the best shows ever made. And no matter how horrible it is, it's simply something you have to see. Thanx ❤

I love that they kept the opening speech by the prosecutor (Roose), a tiny sample of the unending Leninist cant you’d be subjected to, day after day. And also that the judge, supposedly in charge of the court, defers to Boris (the most senior Party member, and thus the real power in the room) and lets Valeri finish his evidence. Of course, it’s a bit of artistic license, as neither Boris or Valeri were present at the trial. But for the show I think it’s the right decision to have them there. If you want to get a good idea of all the reality vs show changes, then check out the HBO podcast with the creator, it is excellent and really goes into why they made the changes.

I love how Boris was talking so confident about the reactor in court. And in the first episode he didn't know anything about it. Such great character development.

You didn’t ask for this, but just in case you’re interested in some further research, Meduza.io has a couple of reviews and interviews, including an interview with Sitnikov’s wife https://meduza.io/en/feature/2019/06/04/the-pain-doesn-t-fade Sitnikov was the guy who was sent up on the roof at the end of E1, and is played by the actor who was Ned’s personal guard in S1, killed by Jaime. Just one of the many GoT cast who appear in Chernobyl (normally unrecognisable under moustaches and white uniforms). On Twitter, https://mobile.twitter.com/SlavaMalamud/status/1132029943297265664 are episode reviews by someone living in the USSR at the time, now in the US. They detail the extraordinary accuracy of the props, costumes, etc. On you tube there is Real Chernobyl by Sky tv (the UK coproducer of Chernobyl) https://youtu.be/Xw3SFOfbR84 again with interviews with some of the characters, including one of the divers from E2, who is amazingly blasé about it. And there are several vids about the new containment project, the mega tomb, which are interesting. And somewhat scary.

Final post, I promise. Where does KGB chief rank vis a vis John Greer (New Gods, POI) on the list of short old British guys that are scary as fuck?

Roman Paliy

One of my uncles was sent there. His job was to dig up the top layer of dirt. He spent 5 months there. His lungs got messed up and he had burns on his legs. Died in 2003 at age 47.

My favorite role of Jared Harris is in Mad Men as Lane Pryce. He's fantastic in there as well - and he does not play a villain. Funny that he's mostly known for playing villains (like Moriarty in the Sherlock Holmes movie) because in my opinion he has such a kind face! 🤗
