I have to say that while this episode is okay for the most part... this episode for me is the worst throughout the entire series. I won't say why, because I know that I'm in the minority over what I hate about this episode. I just don't really like it much overall.

Lol, you caught on about it being in her head just like that. I did too when I first watched it, which is why I think this isn't the easy 'top 10' Nolan promised us it was going to be. It was all too easy right from the start. Not a fan of the dumb plate-breaking sex scene, but Sarah Shahi produced an all-timer here. Samaritan is so dirty though. It really watched that 6741 times, SMH.

Hey Jimmy, it seems that the "words" link goes to the reaction instead of your thoughts.

I liked the episode overall because it was nice to see Shaw back after the long break, but I do think this episode is overrated. It was predictable and in a sense pointless. Idea as such wasn't bad, but the writing had to be way more subtle and clever for it to work. The sex scene was without a doubt the worst scene in the entire series - totally unnecessary and felt completely out of place.

I feel like I liked this episode more the first time I saw it, and not as much now. I do kinda wish it was maybe a little more subtle. I feel like in terms of trippy "nothing is as it seems" episodes, "Terra Incognita" with Carter was better in how it eased into the realization that Reese was dying. There are some things I do like, like how everyone says "let's get back to the Machine" instead of "let's get back to the subway" since the simulation is trying to phish the information from Shaw.

Oh, thank god. I was afraid to get to this episode, but I can see I am amongst real POI fans :D I personally have nothing against Root and Shaw, they are sweet together, I just hate what some fans used their relationship for.. to forward their agendas, thus, effectively taking away from what this show was. This could have been just a relationship within a show. I even remember a letter from some feminist group attacking the show based on what happened next saying this show is anti feministic, i couldn't believe it. Anyways thanks again for another awesome reaction.

I wrote a longer comment but it seems to have disappeared, I just want to say I like this episode and I think it's one of the better ones from Season 5, and I have come to apricate it more on multiple viewing then I did when it first aired and didn't think I liked it. Also its good to have Shaw back, I missed her.

I think the real purpose of this episode is to make it very clear how deeply Shaw feels for Root (the plot *technically* doesn't advance). I'm a fan of this episode, if only for Sarah Shahi's performance (Amy Acker does a great job too). I like that the other characters are out of character: Samaritan does not understand humans nearly as well as the Machine does, so it makes sense that the simulation is off.

I agree and like I said in another comment, im thankful that the majority of relationship stuff for Shaw and root exists in this episode and only in her head. I’m glad the show never did the full on relationship crap that bogs down most shows. The carter stuff before she died was too quick, iris was never a big factor and root and Shaw mostly just flirt hilariously.

Guys guys, I feel like the comments section of this episode has been kinda spoilery on multiple counts!!! We are almost at the endgame now, let us not leave clues for Jimmy.

Hell yes!! I agree. I did find it amusing that the agenda pushers only got a real Shaw and root love scene and it was entirely in Shaw’s head. This whole ship seemed forced. I love the playful flirtation between them, but this show has never been a show that needs romantic crap bogging down the story. The only love connection that hits me is Harold and grace or the tragic John and Jessica, but neither relationship needed to be drones on and on. I don’t hate the episode because it has some fun scenes and Shaw is back, but I agree with you otherwise completely.

Yeah, I am probably a little guilty of that so I won’t comment further, and while I like but not love this episode, I think any issues it has gets completely redeemed by the end. I don’t think that’s too spoilery

Meredith

I posted this in the other video but I think a lot of people misunderstand the intent of this episode. I think that they intentionally made it so you’re not buying into the fantasy. In my mind the acting feels off because Samaritan can’t perfectly simulate Reese, Root and Harold so I feel like it was intentional. More like they wanted you to suspect it and the twist really was that they’ve done this to Shaw over 6000 times.

CJ

I agree I tried to write more about this today but the comment disappeared, everything off about this episode is supposed to feel off.

I don't understand why you're all complaining about finch, reese and co. being out of character this episode..... It's a samaritan simulation...did anyone honestly expect samaritan to be an expert in grasping the essence and the humanity of our team? 😂😂😂
