The fat ps3’s were crazy powerful. Genius move by the writers to use ps3’s. The navy built a supercomputer with 400 ps3’s.

I love how this episode starts. It sets up immediately what this final season will be. That voice overlay with Root reminded me of The Terminator.

Wow Thank you so much Jimmy for the consecutive reactions. I keep thinking how was this show not a worldwide sensation is truly beyond me. The conversations between Harold and The Machine (BTW by now its safe to tell you that you can count the machine as a fully fledged character) are the best that the show has to offer, and are on par with any great conversations in any other TV show ever. I am so glad you stuck with the show to see the greatness it became. Can't wait for you to finish the show to see how it ends and how you feel after you finish it. Looking forward to it.

Root is definitely an amazing character. She goes from one of the biggest “bad guys” to one of the greatest protagonists. Love her! Keep them coming Jimmy!

Fun fact: The supercomputer built with PlayStation 3s? That happened for real with the Air Force. Not-so-fun fact: Michael Emerson's dad died while the shoot for the final season of this series was going on. And he had Alzheimer's. Those lines about erasing the Machine's memories and about Harold's dad's real death happening when he lost his memories must have hit real close to home for Michael.

I think the rather weak first half of season 1 put some critics and viewers off. These days, the tag or procedural and 20-plus episodes is enough for people to assume it must be trash. Unlike Fringe, it didn't have the science basis. The Machine could have stayed a mere gimmick. Not that the show didn't have a strong viewership anyway. But yeah, grossly underrated. I remember how AV Club had to be badgered non-stop to start properly reviewing the show every week.

Completely agree on the Finch-Machine convo in this one being more impactful than the one in S4 finale. There was something moving about watching Harold remove its memories and The Machine basically pleading to him not to do so. As you pointed out, we already know he does it, but the scene is still so powerful because we didn't know how he or The Machine felt while the thing happened.

There is something about this episode and how it was shot, that made it seem more cinematic then previous episodes. IDK.
