To be more clear Jimmy, Gon sacrificed his entire ability to use Nen. Earlier way back, Kurapika used Restraint and Vow to strength his Nen. His self-imposed restriction was that he could only use his chains on the Phantom Troupe, this in turn made it stronger. Gon is doing the same thing her, except his restriction is even greater. It's been said multiple times how great Gon's potential is, even by Pitou. Gon's vow was to never use Nen again after this point, so all of that possible potential manifested into what you saw him become.

Yeah its basically like kurapika's condition. Kurapika nen got stronger under the condition that he only uses that power on spiders. Gon got stronger under the condition that he gave up his ability to use nen. No matter how many times I see this episode it still gets me. Gon was ready to throw everything away to kill pitou.

Yeah the whole episode had me enthralled. Gon's sacrifice had me tear up and Killua's reaction to Gon had me feeling even more sadness coupled with leftover energy over the absolute beatdown that was delivered onto Pitou.

Togashi did such a good job making this triumphant moment sad and painful for the audience. (and technically the plan from the beginning was to just get kite back, and then after gon saw kites condition he said "I want that one for myself" and thats basically what happened minus killuas save. )
