Another great reaction. Glad you're excited for the next episode. I feel it fully delivers. This episode was a bit cheesy with the students being suddenly enthralled by Finch's teaching. But it still works for me because, as you put it, we are kind of watching a mini Finch. I always love the ArpaNet Hacker thread because Finch is so great. It's just another feather in his cap. I too came into this show after loving LOST so my love for Emerson just flowed into this character pretty seamlessly.

What a fantastic episode 💖💖

Great reaction as always. I know you don't care for most child actors, and I'm with you there, but I have a real dislike for the portrayals of geniuses and this kid was a double whammy of dislike. I don't think I've ever seen a "young genius" in a TV show or movie that I liked except when done in a flashback like young Linus, and he wasn't really even a genius, just motivated and conniving. Seriously, I detest Val Kilmer's Real Genius, Harris' Doogie Howser, All versions of pre-Vader Anakin Skywalker, Little Man Tate, Young Sheldon, and so on. I loathe everyone in Big Bang Theory, the show is absolute garbage. Nobody in it acts like a real genius does. Amélie was a genius that was played well. Fringe's Season 2, Episode 7 portrayed a "genius" super-powered kid, Tyler Carson, quite well. I'm glad you were able to enjoy it, but for me, it's one of the worst episodes of the show.

Season 2 is about to POP off. As Finch said in this episode, things are about to get weird

This is one of my favorite "stand-alone" episodes . That's in quotes because we have the thread of Reese, Donnelly, Carter and Rikers in the background, it Finch as the hacker who exposed Arpanet made for an interesting A plot.

"Nobody acts like a real genius" The fact that you think there's a certain way a person with genius IQ has to act tells me you don't know much about geniuses. You certainly don't know many geniuses yourself because if you did, you'd know there is no "correct/wrong way" to portray a genius. Geniuses are still people. All different in their own right. Some are very social and funny. Others are socially awkward. Some are anti-social. Some are very athletic. Some are fat. Some have autistic traits. Others don't. Some are eloquent. Others aren't. Some seem absent minded. Others hyperactive. Some are arrogant. Others humble. Some are introverted. Others extroverted. Some are driven by need for achievement, others a need for power or need for affiliation You can't tell from behavior or portrayal whether someone has a high IQ or not. And that's literally all that "being a genius" means. Having a very high IQ and being able to apply it to a certain craft. Being a genius doesn't tell you anything about a person's upbringing, early life experiences, personality traits etc A person's genetics is even affected by the mother's diet during pregnancy. There are a million factors that influence a person's behavior. How they act, how they perceive and interact with their surrounding environment, what they desire, what motivates them etc. Sure, there are certain things that correlate positively with IQ like curiosity, openness, depression, obsessiveness, internal locust of control etc and geniuses are likely (not guaranteed) to show them one way or another. But still. There is no correct or wrong portrayal of a genius. Well, other than portraying them to be unintelligent. That would obviously be wrong Furthermore: "genius" isn't even a real thing. It's not a scientific or academic term or classification. It's mostly used for highly taleted people (that IS a real term) who have applied their intelligence to something in a (often times innovative or creative) way that makes it stand out to many/to society due to its importance in how it's used or applied. Other times the nature in how intelligence is applied is so abstract to others that they simply don't know better than to call it "genius" as a blanket term. So...considering there isn't even a clear cut definition that lets you correlty and objectively classify people as "geniuses", it makes even less sense to say a genius was badly portrayed. Objectively speaking there are no geniuses. Only highly talented people. Meaning people with high IQ. And considering you can have a very high IQ and still end up being a drunk hobo...(like the violin prodigy shown in a previous POI episode)...there really can't be a wrong portrayal. A highly talented person could turn out to be anything, really
