I also thought Deku learning how to kick was super obvious. Every hero student should be taking some sort of martial arts from day 1. Why did gravity girl have to learn how to fight from an internship??

because they are kids and quirks are ubiquitous. some kids might not decide to do go into hero work right before the last second. you cant expect every child in the world to learn martial arts, since many dont know their paths. add to that the fact that quirks are super diverse. Todoroki and Aoyama dont need martial arts as much as deku or bakugo. very quirk dependent. Gravity girl didnt need to learn martial arts, she wants to become a rescue hero, not a battle/villan hero which suits her quirk. but she decided to learn martial arts to broaden her horizons. like Aizawa says, standardized tests and training wouldnt be good for the way quirks work. they need to be uniquely trained based on each kids quirks and goals.
