If you're not used to reading manga then reading AoT's will be difficult for you. The right-to-left thing takes some getting used to, there's no color, and the artwork can be a bit rough, even compared to other manga. The anime is just so much more visually appealing, and the trailer that just dropped makes it look like season 3 will be the most beautiful yet. However, the manga's story is amazing and is WAY ahead of the anime (season 2 ended at chapter 50 while the manga is currently in the 100s), so if you NEED more AoT, it is prime for binging. My opinion: watch/react to season 3. IIRC the artwork for this arc in the manga was pretty bad. And, if you you're desperate for answers, then season 3 will provide a good amount of those, which should make the wait for season 4 more bearable. That's just what I think, though.

Reading right-to-left is something you get used to really quickly. The differences between the manga and anime are minimal. There are minor design differences, some of the content is rearranged (all the training stuff with the cadets actually occurs as flashbacks much later in the narrative), the Isle's Notebook story actually occurs fairly early in the story, and Ymir's flashback from 210 occurs significantly later in the manga, but otherwise it's a faithful adaptation. I'd recommend holding out for season 3 and then revisit if you want to read the manga.

Lost Girls is definitely my favorite OVA/manga of Attack on Titan (aside from Levi/Erwin's, of course), and it's mainly because of Annie. Even though we didn't really get answers to the "why" behind her mission (other than wanting to return home to her father), we certainly got more insight to her character. Remember when Bertholdt said that the only times he and Reiner had a break in all of this was when they were soldiers? Yeah, it looks like the same thing applies to Annie as well. The only way she could distract herself and not get depressed is when she plays soldier. This tells me that like Reiner and Bertholdt, she's conflicted not only with carrying out her mission against the others, but also with all the horrible things she's done. It makes her less cold and heartless, which is why so many people hated her at first. A little extra information, but this OVA was apparently based on the visual novel of Lost Girls rather than the actual manga, so there were a few changes here and there. One of them being not seeing Annie attempting (but failing) to play with the cat in Part 1. I know that was sort of minor, but it really showed a different side to Annie imo. That and when I saw a cat next to that puddle of blood in S1E24, my mind was a bit blown at the amount of detail with the reference lol. The other change they did was how less brutal and aggressive Annie was when she was fighting those guys towards the end of Part 2, because she was pretty brutal especially towards Lou. Loved how she lit the cigarette for that guy though. That didn't happen in the manga. Speaking of which, reading from right-to-left isn't that bad. In my opinion, you'd be surprised by how quickly you get used to it and that's coming from someone who didn't read manga all that much before. AoT was actually my first manga series that I got into alongside FMAB. The lack of color I got used to as well, and I was actually surprised at how well things could be depicted with JUST white and black. The artwork for AoT is okay. It's not the best when you compare it to other mangas, but I found it okay. Story is still superb though.

If you decide to read the manga make sure to fill us in! like do reviews and stuff. That would be cool. We want to see you discover the story! :D But I kind of recommend waiting for the anime at this point, especially since season 3 has been confirmed as a two cour anime (covering two arcs).
