the problem unfortunately is that HBO told the creators it would be 8 episodes instead of 10 like a month before they started filming. and the writers strike was happening so they couldnt really restructure very easily. but that's why it feels like such a weird endpoint. wasnt meant to be

I agree with your assessment. This episode would have been great if there were 2 more episodes to follow. But as a finale, it stunk... particularly when we have to wait two years for the next season. This episode did have some great scenes like the ones between Aegon and Larys; Allyn and Corlys; Aemond and Helena; and, of course, the one between Rhaenyra and Alicent (which actually made me tear up). The worst scenes by far were the scenes in Essos... which reminded me a bit too much of the horrific Dorne storyline in GOT. They could've skipped Tyland's scenes altogether and at least given us something of substance... like who is holding Otto prisoner!! He's one of the top five best characters in the show FFS!!! Enough complaining... for now. Thanks for the reaction.
