A3_Tangent_002 process video (Patreon)

The Procreate app has a handy little feature that make creating playback videos easy. So, I thought I'd share some insight into my creative process. ( At least when it comes to working on Procreate. ) 

The Tangent series of updates is really just an excuse to use my practice time for site content. I pick a mood or subject and try to render it out as best I can in a limited amount of time. Then I sit down and write a small story fluff piece that explores the Astray3 world outside the normal course of the narrative. Each update will usually reflect and expand on what is going on in the comic at the time. So, you can expect the Tangents to get more fantastical as we get deeper into the story. 

This particular update I wanted to focus on mood and lighting. There was no particular photo inspiration for this one. I just rolled with a color scheme and setting. I could have added some brighter highlights on Emily. But, I get a little cowardly when it comes to super bright contrasts. My bad. 

The story chunk for this one just fills out the reasons for Emily's dissatisfaction with her world. I will pat myself on the back a bit for where it went. I'm not a believer in perfect "likable" protagonists. You need a little darkness in a character to make them feel three dimensional. And, Emily dragging Crystal around for a pity-party highlights her emotional selfishness without appearing too cruel. Now for the real question....will I ever draw any of the friends mentioned in the vignette?
