Randomly Mine, much like the channel I run, is supposed to be about games. For the opening day of this New Year however, I think we can make an exception.

I think Youtubers in particular have a unique view of 2020, because (at least for those whose content doesn't rely on live action), it's one of the only careers unaffected by the pandemic. Rising cases didn't risk Steam keys. You didn't need to wear a mask to start Adobe. And if anything, attention was easier to come by due to more people needing content more of the time.

Everything else however? Well, that changed quiet bit.

Tech companies were breaking demand records, without the resources or people to keep up. Cities like mine, where business could barely afford to remain as is, where closing doors one by one. Even the giants like Starbucks, were having to lay people and locations off by the truckload.

Here in Vancouver, Cineplex just opened their all new luxury theatre. Complete with bigger screens leather LaZboys, and alcohol. Perfect timing for every movie and movie business to pull out the curtains.

However, what I suspect a lot of people came to learn this year is how much of this stuff, they don't need.

Do you need to get that specific form of coffee from a multimillion dollar corporation? Is going to the movies a great time killer? Do in-person meetings need to be frequent?

Only time will tell if we settle back into our old habits post-vaccine, or if we evolve. Take this opportunity to structure our lives not just more efficiently, but more purposefully. It's so easy to fall into routines that eat our wallets, time, and energy, that a major world shake up is the only thing that can break it.

Everybody's had time to be introspective this year, and whether anything will come of it... I can at least hope.

Happy New Year Everybody.

Best wishes,
Raycevick

P.S. BallisticNG is a fucking good game, go buy it before the sale ends.
