What was the last game you loved playing, only to find out that critics and the general audience panned it?

With Steam Reviews, word of mouth, and Twitter, it's rather difficult to get an impression of a game without any hint of what it might be in-terms of quality.
Probably Halo 4. Not so much by critics obviously, but prior to starting Years Later, I was not at all in-tune with the debate surrounding 343 Industries' reputation. Loved is a strong word, but I definitely enjoyed my first-time playing Halo 4, and have continued to enjoy the game sense, even in Multiplayer.

What is your favorite immersive sim and why?

I really want to say Prey, Deus Ex, or Thief, but honestly? MGS3's the one I remember most of all. I could totally see why some would list MGS5 as their favorite, but MGS3 for me is just that little bit more detailed in level-design, enemy reactions, and immersion. Wildlife, stamina, item-wear, items, camo; it all combines together into a game that I still discover new things about years after release.

Though, that's the appeal most high quality Immersive Sims have in-common. Hopefully as time goes on, this sub-genre gets more populated.

If you had to choose, what game do you want see his comeback in the setup of WW2  and why?

Not to dodge answer, but when it comes to WWII, it's less about what game should comeback, and rather, what should be explored about WWII itself. As we've already had Battlefield V, COD: WWII, Day of Infamy; I'd be okay with taking a break from the era, but the problem is, those games aren't making the most of WWII's history.

I rolled my eyes at COD: WWII exploring yet again the Normandy beach landings. Not even a new section, just repeating the American charge that Call of Duty itself did in 2005, also 2002 if you count Medal of Honor Allied Assault.

There's been almost nothing on The Winter War, between Russia and Finland. Japan vs China. Italy. Even Berlin itself has only been used as an epic Flag planting hurrah, without any further explorations of a fallen capital. There's so many things to still be explored about World War II in all media, let alone video-games.

If you could choose an old PS1 generation game to get the Final Fantasy 7 Remake style treatment, which one would it be and why?

Resident Evil's 2&3 got that treatment, so that answer's been made irrelevant. Crash Trilogy got a Remaster. So did Spyro. Gran Turismo has essentially maintained its core. A Medal of Honor remake wouldn't feel that original. Metal Gear Solid is too easy of an answer...

Actually! Being that I recommend the Netflix Castlevania series not too long ago, a Symphony of the Night Remake I imagine would be a real head turner. That or Silent Hill. Though... we know Konami will be Konami and Konami is the worst.

Wait...

Castlevania's also owned by Konami.

Fuck.

Fine, redo Metal Gear Solid.

Properly this time!

Have you thought about doing a “Years Later” on MW2 and 3?

As you're enjoying F1 2019 I was wondering what your thoughts were on the other Codemasters racing series, the Colin McRae/Dirt franchise?

I played the original Colin McRae Rally on the Playstation, and have very fond memories of it and the sequels that followed, so I've had a great time with the Dirt Series, with Rally being my favorite. It's rather hard to go back to the more forgiving games after getting used to Rally's uncompromising but engaging gameplay.

Though, I really need to host a Dirt 3 multiplayer session sometime, because the Zombie and CTF modes in that were fantastic.

Will you ever review Mafia II? If not, can you summarise quickly what you thought of the game.

Have you ever though about doing a video on Battlefield: Bad Company? I remember finding the first one an incredible, funny and unique shooter and the second -- well, the multiplayer was fun but the tone and gameplay of the campaign drastically changed and lost a lot of the original's charm and wit. And it's never gotten a third one...
