Harpers are the most common mount found in Lioncourt. They are flightless predatory birds and the tales of their taming are legendary. They are highly intelligent and menaced the kinlings of the Age of Aftermath. Eventually they were domesticated and few are feral in the wilds. Harpers can learn a variety of different words and are about as smart as a four year old. Harpers form strong bonds with their riders and are generally safe to have around as they are very social. However Harpers still predatory animals and if not fed properly will hunt and reek havoc on ferals and farm creatures. They are purely carnivorous and often times bring their kills back to their masters to share.

Harpers also have a complex relationship with other harpers. Harpers in a stable tend to flock to the oldest or strongest female, whom has major command over them. If there is conflict over who rules the roost, one harper must be traded to another stable as the conflict can get bloody. This is often rare, as by default, harpers tend to follow the oldest female.

Once used exclusively as war mounts do to their ferocity and loyalty, they have since supplanted Yeneer as the mount of choice in Lioncourt.
