hello, I'm sure if your active on Twitter you have seen the recent discourse surrounding the patreon system change. Patrons will receive an email from patreon themselves tomorrow discussing the changes. I will try to sum them up in this post, however, to give you guys the ability to make your own decisions regarding the changes. as simply as I can put it, patreon is front-loading the processing fees from me to you guys. If you are familiar with patreon you probably know that what you pledged to me is not the total amount I end up getting. I end up getting anywhere from 90 to 92% of the pledges I get. 5% is taken by patreon, and some percentage usually around 4.5% is taken by the processing fees, the topic of this post. To give creators more revenue, patreon is planning to move the processing fees from having the Creator's pay for it to the patrons. on Wednesday, December 18th, patreon will make this change. instead of having creators pay, each pledge will have a processing fee of 2.9% Plus $0.35 tacked onto it, similar to the value-added tax system if you live in Europe. this does mean I will see all the money that you pledge to me, before hand if you pledged a dollar I would only see around $0.80 of it. It also means that you will end up paying a bit more for your pledge. for example, a $5 pledge will now have a processing fee of around $0.50 stacked on. I don't intend to persuade you to keep or change your pledges, I just wanted to present this to you and let you make your own decision. Thanks!
