Personal Project for April: Woodburning Attempt (Patreon)

So I've been meaning to try this out for a while now but kept putting it off (especially between a lot going on recently in my life the last month, from family/friend houseguests and Covid - but I finally had the opportunity to play with this idea: woodburning art!

I cut the tree ring myself (from a naturally fallen tree on our new property), baked it to kill any potential mites/bugs (unfortunately split the wood in the process, but this was an experiment anyway, sketched with a pencil on the wood, and then used a soldering iron to burn out the design.

It's an interesting medium and I know there's a lot I have to learn about technique, tools, and however people finish off the designs with shellac or other things, but this was really cool to try out.
