Hello,

As you’ve probably already been notified by Patreon, they have made a change to the way that their payment structure is handled that directly affects you all.

I feel that it is my responsibility to address this publicly, make sure you are aware of the changes, and how I feel about it.

The full details can be read HERE: https://patreon.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005631963

I am also uploading an image that was included in an email from Patreon to creators to visually express how the payment structure has changed.

Beforehand, it was not unusual that I was taking home about 80% of what my patrons are pledging. The way the pricing structure is changing, I will be taking home 95% of the pledges, HOWEVER Patreon is adding a “service fee” To the patrons of 2.9% + $0.35 to each individual pledge.

This is not something I asked them to do, nor is it something I've heard any plurality of other creators ask for either. Requests have been made for creators to absorb those fees on their own rather than passing them on to patrons, but this is apparently not going to be permitted.

While I understand why Patreon is doing this, I do not agree with them having leveraged this across the board to all creators without an option to opt-out of the payment structure. While it may be a small fee, when people are contributing small amounts, or a small amount to a lot of creators, it can hit them pretty hard, and that is the last thing I want.

I wish I had a solution or some way to change or mitigate this, but at this time I do not. While I hope that as many of you as possible decide to continue to support me on Patreon, I completely understand if you decide that Patreon’s policy change makes you unable to continue to do so.

As always, thank you all for your continued support!

I hadn't noticed any notifications from Patreon on this yet, and it's awesome that you took it upon yourself to get the word out. I'm personally happy to see the shift means a bigger percentage for you, and don't mind shouldering the fees. Others may feel differently. The concerns over how the new structure affects low-amount pledges are certainly valid. Honestly, it's all a bit of a refreshing reality check for people who might have still thought the artist magically got 100%. Not so much.

I will continue to support you, but I have a fixed budget for patreon, so I will have to figure out who gets cut. This stinks, but this seems the year to raise all the fees that I deal with. I know this isn't your fault and I Thank you for all that you do.

The thing here as one who backs, if you pledge $100 to one person new system cost $103.25, but if you pledge $1 to 100 it cost $138 which is stupid. Once you give $100 to patreon to give to people why does it cost how many people's accounts it is divided up into.

Its in the transaction, Patreon owes money for every transaction they have to make, which is why one Patreon at 100 bucks is different at 1 dollar. The solutions for this problem are few (within the realm of reality, not reasonability).

It's a shame Patreon have been so draconian, but I will continue to support you. :)

I want to keep supporting you but with this mindset I do not want to support Patreon. They're the big winners here at the cost of creators' bottom line. It's disgusting. There are a few creators I'm supporting with $1 per month, either because they don't create a lot or because I'm not _that_ into their work, but this change makes sure that I have to pay $1 + $0.35 + $0.029 = $1.38. Creators are taking away only 95 cents of that, which means they're only getting 70% of what I pay now instead of the 80% they got before. As a result I'm not even going to be backing them anymore, or at least not through Patreon... As for you: you're one of the few creators I want to keep backing despite this draconian change but I really do hope you find an alternative way of backing you. Patreon is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.
