Gabriel would absolutely be the dumbass who isn't paying enough attention to his own family to realize (in both cases of Natalie and Adrien) that either of them are already or are even capable of working against him. Adrien gaining independence (or at he bare minimum healing from his mother's absence), he's always been that way. Natalie giving you the stink eye more often than not, she isn't feeling well due to the peacock being damaged that's it. And he'll leave it at that like a bob.
