Trope Talk: Deus Ex Machinas

Check out campfire HERE: https://campfirewriting.com/write/book-writing-app?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=OSP_Q3_22 The chariot in Medea. The giant eagles in Lord of the Rings. The tenth level D&D cleric ability Divine Intervention. You know this trope, and you know the tone it's usually described in. But I think it's time we talked about the good side of the narrative hand of god swooping down to save the day! I would like you to bring up the Deus Ex Machinas that shows up only after horrendous things happened that wouldn't have if it shown up an hour earlier. For instance, in the Hobbit, if the eagles had shown up before the good guys had taken big losses. I find these frustrating. In Blue Sword the heroine only activates the sword after thousands are killed, and then it just wipes out the enemy. So all those deaths were for absolutely nothing.

Thank you for including the obvious Promare reference!
