Oh, no. That movie I liked is getting a sequel. Will it be good, or will it make me retroactively dislike the thing I used to like? And why is it always such a close call?! Horror movie sequels are always interesting to talk about because they're the only kind of sequels where the villain is the single recurring character. The problem is most apparent (at least for me) with Friday the 13th were with the exceptions of parts 4-6; none of them have a recurring main character who doesn't get killed off in the following film. This factor is what hindered the ninth film in the series, Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday. It tries to be a big finale that ties all the movies together, but it's not easy to get that sense of finality when we're dealing with protagonists that we've only just met. Predator is a unique film series because it's technically a different hero and villain for each film, all just happening to be in the same universe. Dutch does not come back in any of the sequels (though there were plans for him to return in Predator 2 and AVP: Alien vs. Predator).

YES. Do a sequel (or Part 2) where you go to genres like what Ian discuses above, or the Romance genre, where the good version is to go into the romantic lives of the friends/family of the first story showing what happens to them semi-simultaneously in much greater depth but with them only performing cameos at best. Also, David Eddings wrote a BUNCH of the "retcon oops well things didn't really get fixed after all" variety.

Hi, Red, Thanks for breaking down, cleaning, and reassembling the sequel machines. No I don't mean to say that none of your words described anything organic, and I'm not really mechanically inclined. It's just the first language that occurred to me. I will enjoy watching the Star Wars movies with RiffTrax even more, now, and the friend who's been watching with me will enjoy this video of yours. By the way, we already have almost a generational sequel, for our watch parties, because it's been a year or two since he's had time to sit down and watch a movie, with anyone but his wife (They have their priorities together.). Also, I've been binge-watching My Hero Academia, which I first checked out on your recommendation, from your trope talk on tournament arcs. Thank you, so much. It really is well done, and has surprised me, often.
