Trope Talk: Magic

"I have a great idea," I said, not having a great idea. "I'll write up a script about magic and how its historical roots are responsible for its portrayal in modern media!" "Yeah! That sounds easy!" Nice transitions between the 5 forms of magic. Leading into them from the previous one I mean.

Another excellent video. My support is clearly a worthwhile investment :)

I saw this video,, and I loved it (as usual with Reds videos)! I ended up with two comments and a question on magic: Comment #1: Magic, in world building, if done properly, isn't noticeable. Take electrical power in the modern world. To anyone who has NOT seen an electric light bulb in action a light bulb is magic! Everyone else has so many light bulbs, there is no longer anything special about it. Comment #2: Use of Magic in Tolkien or Terry Brooks by a non-magic character has a warping effect on that character. Is this a modern view to magic, or was it around before and got rediscovered? Where would The Force (tm) fit into the different Magic classifications?
