I know exactly what you mean! I love this trope (apart from like the cliche horribe one) - my favourite damsel-scenario of all time is (One Piece's) Robin from the Enies Lobby Arc

This is wonderful dissection of the trope, and explanation on why it often fails or proves to be lazy. The ability to explore character dynamics after a principle character is removed and determine said character's emotional response to their powerless situation is an intriguing concept. My most personal resonant case of this trope came in Utena, where this often trope is subverted... or deconstructed... or done poorly, I'll admit my judging of literary devices is arguably poor. I only recently found your channel, and can't help but be appreciative of how clearly you all present your material and analysis. Thanks for your hard work!
