Are you aware of the cover stories in the manga? They follow various characters after they leave the main story. Buggy had one but most of them didn’t get animated even though some of them are really relevant to the main story. In Jango’s story he wins a dance contest or something before joining the navy. I would love to see your reactions if you’re planning on reading them.

The way it works is that all throughout the manga, Oda uses the first page of each chapter to draw one panel and one short sentence that make up a parallel story if you put them back to back. It’s really fun and I’ve never seen any other manga doing that.
