Wauw, five amazing westerns - "The Quick And The Dead" is a huge personal favorite - Sam Raimis cool style of directing combined with a stellar cast and fantastic music. But my pick is "The Magnificent Seven" - the 60s version is a impressive ensemble piece of wonderful actors and the story is just as good. It was inspirered by the japanese movie "The Seven Samurai" by Akira Kurosawa...

Pale Rider is a DL western classic

The original Magnificent Seven was my Dad's favorite. It is a great movie!

Michael Lynch

Oh come on guys, you know damn well she’s going to like open range more than the original magnificent seven.

Anonymous

How is the Searchers not doing better on this poll?

Anonymous

Open range in my opinion is Kevin Costner best movie

LuMarq

Finally Open Range!!! fingers crossed

If you don't vote Open Range you are wrong....

Neill Shaughness

I strongly recommend seeing Seven Samurai before Magnificent 7. I usually advise people to treat Seven Samurai, The Magnificent 7, and finally The Three Amigos as a trilogy

Bill Maurer

Good movie, doesn't come close to The Searchers or even Magnificent 7.

Bill Maurer

Great point, not so sure about Three Amigos. But Magnificent 7 is straight out of Seven Samurai

The Searchers is a top 10 film of all time, not just Westerns. John Ford directs and John Wayne stars. The film has a subtle plot point that’s obvious but so many miss. It’s a commentary on racism disguised as a Western revenge film. One of Wayne’s best performances. John Ford also directed The Quiet Man.

Terdell Ferguson

Open Range is the best of these. I would also add the remake of The Magnificent Seven with Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt is superior to the original. I was shocked when my dad told me he thought that, and after contemplating on it for a while, I think I agree.

The Searchers is the best film of the bunch by far, but I think it's a little bit too emotional for her to watch.

David Collins

Open Range is soooo good. Plus it will open the door to Star Wars Andor as Diego Luna, who plays Button in Open Range, also plays Cassius Andor and is such a great actor. And Cassie, you're going to have to decide and just pick one (or have a poll of just his movies) if you ever want to watch a John Wayne movie and experience the GOAT. Don't see his movies ever winning internet polls. We lost him way too long ago and his legend is sadly fading.

Mr Trick

How is The Searchers not winning? Cassie has yet to touch any classic westerns and that would be a great place to start. (Can’t do that without John Wayne.

JSharp

As far as the type of story Cassie and Carly would love, definitely Open Range. Not even close. They would absolutely love that one. Plus they're in love with Kevin Costner.

zynjams

1. how about Little Big Man, Dustin Hoffman, 2. Tom Hanks in News of the World, 3. 100 rifles, Raquel Welch, 4. Red Sun, Charles Bronson, 5. a million ways to die in the west, Seth MacFarlane, 6. Wyat Earp, Keven Costner, 7. 2 Mules for Sister Sara, Clint Eastwood. a few really good westerns not on the list.

Mike LL

Here is a shoutout to a couple of other Westerns that are poll worthy. Red River (1948) with John Wayne, Montgomery Clift, and the ever good looking Walter Brennan. Destry Rides Again (1939) with James Stewart and Marlene Dietrich (this is who Madeline Kahn was imitating in Blazing Saddles) about a lawman who won't wear a gun.

Timothy Williams

Searchers is the greatest Western ever made and you will love Open Range, but The Magnificent Seven is classic and lots of fun so I chose Magnifcent 7. I think you and Carly would enjoy it the most of all of these.

Cojuancidence

McLintock! its free on youtube with some favorites from A Quite Man* John wayne classic starring his son and Muareen O'Hara. Love what you do, Grand thanks to You and Carly!

Clifton Owens

Open Range is a fantastic movie and the love story between Kevin Costner, and Annette Benning has a unique realness to it for the time period and their age.

Michael Lynch

This is a shame, because popcorn actually voted for open range.

Brian Lowery

Open Range is an under appreciated film. A real gem. My second pick would be Pale Rider.

Mike Carey

disappointed that neither poll contains High Noon. Great movie, won 4 Academy Awards and among the first movies to be picked by the LIbrary of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry. Oh well, maybe next time. These are all good movies too though :)

Richard Maurer

Switched my vote to The Magnificent Seven as TQATD clearly isn't going to win.

Anonymous

Good point. High Noon and Liberty Valance are the two best Westerns made

barnabas

| disappointed that neither poll contains High Noon Or Shanghai Noon, either... 😉

John Casamassa

I'm stoked that Magnificent Seven won!!! They were all good choices, though.

Celeste McAllister

I'm all for a western poll every three or four months, perhaps 'Ambush' 'Westward the Women' 'Red River' 'Cat Ballou' 'Hondo' 'Shane' 'High Noon' 'How the West was Won',might all make it on future polls..or picks!♡

Robert Nelson

Centennial would be such an awesome series for you to watch. Centennial is a real city in Colorado, but the story is fictional; an adaptation from a series of books.

Jim Williams

blech. I hated McClintock, I hated Chisum. Two of Wayne's worst movies, IMO.

Jim Williams

I'm okay with the ORIGINAL Magnanimous Seven winning the poll, but I would have voted for The Searchers, which I like a lot better. Of course, I prefer politically incorrect to politically correct movies, so...

Jim Williams

uhm... no. They're among the best, but not the best. She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, The Searchers, Shane... The Tin Star was as good as was High Noon, as was The Gunfighter. My favorite western is probably still "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon". If she's going to react to "High Noon", she should make it a double-feature and also react to "Outland" the same day. I always liked Sean Connery better than Gary Cooper, anyway.

Jim Williams

I don't mean anything antagonistic by that; I like the movie, I just like playing with words and long ago I changed the name to amuse myself.

Christopher Carr

I don't think the average person in the PIB community has much awareness of some really great movies in the 50s and 40s. So much of those movies have become part of the lexicon of our culture. "We don't need no stinking..." just fill in the last word for your situation. That came from The Treasure of the Sierra Madre as well as other lines. The Searchers gets only 9%!? It is routinely rated as the best Western ever made! It gets 9%. If we can't do better than this the group is disappointing. Selection of a movie CANNOT be based on a popularity poll only. The giants on which the film industry is built will become vague memories. In terms beginning the group had promise but now it's mainly mini series and movies that late 80s and after.

Miles E Coburn

The demographics of this medium skews heavily towards younger people. And unfortunately, most don't care or are interested in anything that isn't recent or trending. Cassie herself has said prior to starting the channel she hadn't watched a movie older than the 90s. With few exceptions, the same can be said for many, many reactor channels.

Christopher Carr

I first ran across the channel in October 2021. The movie being reacted to was Casablanca and there were a few others in the offing. She was seeing others like Band of Brothers and others that were very appealing to me. I haven't been that interested in the ones that are current and can be seen on their own channel. Early on Patreon members could send a CD and it would be reacted to. I suspect that a lot of the older films were contributed by the higher tiered members. That was an attractive benefit. But pretty soon the membership became so large that Cassie couldn't physically keep up with the incoming contributions. This summer I will be retiring and moving to a fixed income and when my membership expires in November that'll be all for PIB except for YouTube. My ability to push for The Treasure of the Sierra Madre will be gone and I'll watch the ones I like.
