This video glitched and would not play anymore at 47:33. just over a minute into "The Message". I have watched this once before, months ago and it was fine then.

If you want to know more about Book, I'm afraid you'll have to read the comic "Serenity: The Shepard's Tale".

Saffron has had more husbands than some Hollywood actresses. What happened to Tracey honestly isn't unheard of for Veterans of defeated armies. They're fed all this talk about honour, glory and a better life once the war is over. Then they lose, and they have nothing left. For them the war may have been hell, but compared to civilian life, it can look a damn sight better.

One thing that we learned in this episode is that Jayne, who is apparently obsessed with money, was actually sending money home to his mother. That puts his money obsession in a whole different light. Also, I suspect that Tracey came from a background similar to that of Kaylee. This perhaps is why she was listening to Tracey's message, as it made her think of her family back on her home planet and the possibility that they would never see her again if something happened.

Don't know if anyone has recommended this for a TV show to react to yet. But since you like Wash so much you should look into Resident Alien. It's a new TV show with the actor who played Wash. Pretty funny. 2nd season is about to start.

I have been a sub to this patreon since almost it started(I missed the start by one month). And it all of that time I have never been more excited then when she started watch(and loving(I hope)) firefly(And I used to be in the tier that could request movies). This is my favorite show of all time. I love everything about it. But, what I love more, is that Cassie loves it. I know she said she didn't think The Message was her fav but this episode always makes me cry. I am vehemently anti-war and the damage it does to people who risk their lives breaks my heart all of the time. The damage it does to this kid kills me yet I love them giving this a good treatment.

That show is also sweet, endearing, smart, clever, and not contrived, or over-complicated. I really like it.

Yes, 100%. There is a lot one catches on rewatches. Like Mal's growing up on a ranch? This he knows a lot about cattle? It's such a rich story.

Watching this with Cassie reminds me of a particular Firefly blooper I'd love her to react to.

You need to put Serenity on your list. It's a continuation after the first season, but in a movie.

Hey Cass, so the scene where they drop Tracy off with his parents at the end is actually *the last* scene filmed for the entire series. It wasn't filmed and aired in the same order. At least that's what I read somewhere.

"... And then have to wait so long for the wrap-up of Serenity." - That isn't really how it happened, no :D Firefly ended and then the fans harassed Fox for messing it up so badly and not giving us a second season that they eventually caved and made the movie (so that fans would stop bothering them). ... I may still be a bit offended that they cancelled the show :P "He's so likeable, Wash, I just wanna be his friend." - "I'm a leaf on the wind. Watch how I soar." ~ Wash (from the movie)

Texas Anla'Shok

Fox did nothing. Joss Whedon had to go over to Universal to make Serenity because Fox hled the TV rights still and wouldn't do anything with them.

Texas Anla'Shok

"You are such a boob." That's the most coherent thing River's said since we've met her.

Planner

I may have been conflating the second season of Dollhouse being approved with Serenity being made (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dollhouse_(TV_series)#Second_season_and_cancellation) - "if we'd canceled Joss's show I'd probably have 110 million e-mails this morning from the fans". That's the quote I was remembering and attributed to what happened when they cancelled Firefly.

Planner

Fair, without the context it didn't seem spoilery at all to me but I can see how it could maybe be seen that way. Edited. It was the Wash quote that came to mind when Cassie said her quote.

Chris Reise

Why are we arguing in Cassie's house? This is a friendly place. :)

Planner

I thought they were reasonable enough points and didn't take any offence :) I agree, we're all friends here.
