Loved your reaction to this one, mostly from a generational perspective. Movies had free rein, in the 70s and 80s, to be weird and experimental and dumb and tonally sideways, because filmmakers had the freedom to be themselves and take chances. Films weren't made by corporate committees and reshot to satisfy angry nerds; John Carpenter got to make BTILC and Joe Dante went bonkers in GREMLINS because they were creators doing what they loved to do. I was a teenager when BIG TROUBLE came out and I just loved it to DEATH, it was exactly the kind of nonsensical goofy fun I craved.
