I had a magazine demo of the PS1 game. It was an outdoor level with the spider-tank. It was really dynamic, and a lot of fun. I had no idea what anime was then. In 2009, I spoke to Havok about their engine capabilities with having NPC enemies scaling level walls in the same fashion, and they were unable to establish any pathfinding techniques to do this. Ghost in the Shell was way ahead of its time, not just in themes, but also what they achieved with the game, all the way down to a programatic level.

I was never able to play it since I was a Saturn guy and it was a Playstation exclusive, but I remember seeing it running at anime cons and the like. I didn't know at the time that it had such utterly insane animated cutscenes though. I mean, the Ghost in the Shell movie looks pretty nice, but this was the closest we ever got to a proper Masamune Shirow manga-accurate GITS in animated form, with all the comedy and slapstick and stuff included.
