The Med lies far behind us and we just completed the longest sail for us yet. It still feels absolutely surreal that we made it here.

It was challenging and even a little scary at times. After all, this is not the Mediterranean anymore. For the first time, we sailed on the big open ocean passing within 350NM of Mauritania, one of the most remote places on earth!

And now, just like that, we arrive to a country that feels completely different from any destination we have ever visited before. Within the last two days of our passage, the air got hotter and the fine Sahara dust now tickles my nose.

Cape Verde is a destination that I have only ever read about and just a few years ago I would have not thought I’d ever be able to see this place in my life. Making it here felt almost impossible at times. Yes, it was quite a learning curve, especially for me as I have never sailed before we set off on this journey. And just in the past months we dodged thunderstorms, rode through squalls and sailed further and longer than we ever did before.

But Cape Verde will only be a short stop and we are just about to embark on an even bigger journey all the way across the Atlantic Ocean. And even though we are in the midst of preparing for our greatest challenge yet, it is only just sinking in, what we are about to do.

Am I excited? Yes!

Am I scared? Of course!

But things that are difficult and a little scary will always happen to us in life. Sometimes we chose them ourselves and sometimes we don’t. Yet, every challenge we overcome will help us become a little more confident along the way and give us the energy to overcome the next challenge ahead.

With this photo, I hope that you will overcome all the challenges in your life, no matter if you chose them or not.

Much love,

Salsa

Thank you so much! You are both too sweet! We are getting very close now - Enrique just left to check on the status of our Sat Phone (should have arrived in customs). After that provisioning will start and then stuff will get serious 😅😆😱
