OPR Writing Jam #8

Next week we’ll be running our 8th writing jam, so don’t forget to sign up!

The OPR Writing Jams are story writing marathons, where participants are asked to write a one-page story set in the OPR universe in 48hrs, following a common theme. Participation is completely free and at the end of the writing jam we will highlight your favorite stories on our website.

The writing jam is planned to run from August 11th, at 8PM UK time / 3PM ET time, to August 13th, at 8PM UK time / 3PM ET time, with the theme being announced at the start of the jam.

OPR Hangout Stream Recording Available

3D Print - New Previews + New Painting Video

To win most battles, you're going to need troops. At the top of the post you're going to see previews of September's releases. For the Human Empire the Mercenaries bring unique weapons from the lands outside the Empire, including optional monkey companions. In contrast the Dwarf Guilds Warriors form the backbone of their forces and have a variety of weapons and equipment at their disposal to keep the fight going strong.

Please remember that these are early WIP shots of the models, and not the final versions of the models.

Speaking of useful equipment, in this week's Paintman Journeying video he explores the idea of lucky brushes while working on an Alien Hive Flamer Beast.

Agreed - not happy with the direction the models are taking. Was hoping for more classic fantasy to start my collection. Same with the results of the Human Empire.

there are plenty of classic fantasy designs already readily available. why were you looking here for them and what about any previous armies made you think OPR sticks to the standard, played-out look?

Definitely the type of space dwarves I'm happy to see!

I generally like the feel of these dwarves. I do think the armor could use some additional detailing to push the sci-fi feel. Also from what we can see of the backpacks, they feel kind of standardish. Obviously that's assuming a lot since there is limited vision on them(and likely still in a very early stage, precisely because they aren't being shown off). But more distinct utilitarian purposes might help. One with coms, one with an arm or drill or something might be a fun detail, but it would have to somehow fit into the rolls within the rules, so maybe a pipe dream. Lastly many of the faces are far to clean and youthful looking for grim dark. I assume that a more weathered look will come with further work. But dwarves, especially, should be rugged and weathered.
