Hi everyone, here's a preview of all the new stuff you'll be getting next month, plus a roadmap of what you can expect in the near future!

April New Releases

Next month we're seeing releases for the Ratmen and Blessed Sisters. The Ratmen's final month shows that the modestly sized rodents know when to bring big friends and big toys, including the much requested Beast Captain riding a giant ferret that comes in both cute and spicy varieties, large vehicles like the Platforms and Great Death Roller, backed up by the Storm Ogres, Militia, and a host of sidekicks to bring charm and character to your units.

The Blessed Sisters aren't holding back either, with the heavy weapons of the Support Sisters, the Witch and the Canoness heroes, and the fire power of the Battle Tank to bring glory to their faction. Not to mention next month's legendary release: The Blessed Sisters Procession Altar which includes a special hero, a special group of Protector Sisters, and the Procession Altar itself, complete with an animated flaming sword wielding statue!

Rounding out the 3D releases are the re-released FTL Marauder Fleet, as well as Lust & Plague Daemons Small Terrain to decorate game tables.

For 2D print we'll have the Saurians Set #4 for you, as well as the War Daemons Set #1, plus the re-released FTL Marauder Fleet.

For gaming we're going to be releasing 8 missions for all games, and the betas for Grimdark Future: FTL and Age of Fantasy: Quest.

Project Roadmap

With April being the final month for the Ratmen, next month will see the debut of the new Human Empire models for Age of Fantasy! They will be making their debut with their brave Infantry and their Fanatics to put bodies on the field, commanded by the Human Empire Captain and Knights.

The Blessed Sisters will have one more release in May to finish their list, with heavy armor being the theme as we release the Destroyers, Walkers, and the much requested Exo Suit Hero.

April will also see the release of the new loyalty rewards! The Lust Daemons Avatar and the Saurian Starhost Behemoth.

Then we move on to the next Sci-Fi release: the Alien Hives re-work! :D

Now those of you that have been around for a while know that we originally released the Alien Hives back in September 2020, so you might be wondering what the Alien Hives re-work is.

The short story is that over the last 3 years, OPR has improved the quality of sculpting and completeness of unit releases to the point that the Alien Hives don't feel up to snuff anymore. Whilst we love the range as a whole, there are many units that are missing weapon options, and there are key models that we don't think look neither good, nor consistent with the rest of the army.

Over the last few months, we have been working on a re-fresh of the units, updating 99% of them either with some new weapons, improved texturing, or by making completely new takes of existing models. We're also going to be updating a few models with adjusted poses, so that they fit on their intended base sizes better.

Here's a WIP example of our new take on the Flamer Beast:

We know that a lot of you have either purchased the Alien Hives models recently, or were originally supporting back in 2020, so we wanted to clarify what will happen with the models, and how they will be released.

Since this is the re-release of an existing army, we will be doing a shorter 3-month cycle for them, instead of the usual 6 months it would take to release such a big army. That means that you'll be getting double the amount of sci-fi models you usually get each month!

As part of this cycle, each month you will get 3 brand new takes on existing units, as well as an additional 7 re-worked units with either new weapons, improved texturing, or adjusted poses. This way if you already bough the models, you're still getting something new each month, on top of all the improvements to things you already had.

Here's a WIP example of some new weapon options for the Hive Warriors:

"What happens to the models I already bought?" - you may rightfully ask:

  • Models that are only getting new weapons, improved texturing, or adjusted poses will be automatically updated in your MMF library. This means that even if you decide to stop supporting over those 3 months, you will still be getting those updates.
  • Models that are getting completely new takes will be archived on MMF, meaning that you will still be able to print them as they were, but they won't be available for purchase anymore. This means that you don't have to worry about losing access to the original look of those models you paid for.
  • The only exception is the Hive Titan, which is getting a hybrid of improved texturing and a new take, so it will be archived on MMF as well. This means that the new Hive Titan will not be updated in your library, so that you get to keep the original look of it.

Here is a comprehensive list of all the models you will be getting, and how they are being re-worked. Note that only the Swarms and Spores are staying the same, and so they are not being listed here. (But they will still included with the release of the other models.)

Models that are being re-posed:

  • Assault Grunts
  • Shooter Grunts
  • Winged Grunts
  • Soul-Snatchers
  • Snatcher Lord

Models that are being re-textured:

  • Synapse Floaters
  • Venom Floaters
  • Toxico-Rex
  • Psycho-Rex
  • Hive Titan

Models that are getting new weapons:

  • Hive Lord
  • Prime Gunner
  • Assault Prime
  • Winged Prime
  • Hive Warriors
  • Hive Guard
  • Ravenous Beasts
  • Shadow Hunter

Models that are getting re-made:

  • Carnivo-Rex
  • Burrower
  • Artillery Beast
  • Spawning Beast
  • Devourer Beast
  • Tyrant Beast
  • Flamer Beast
  • Mortar Beast
  • Invasion Spore

Here's a WIP example of our new take on the Burrower:

We hope that this explanation has been clear, and we are very excited to get these awesome models into the hands of more people. If there are any doubts, please let us know in the comments, and we will clarify. :)

Here's a roadmap for the next few months:

  • May - Human Empire & Blessed Sisters
  • June - Human Empire & Alien Hives + New Welcome Pack
  • July - Human Empire & Alien Hives

That's it for now, happy wargaming!

Will the same rework happen with the robots too? I love the Saurian take on the alien hives and I am HAPPY that you’re not making them another bug like ripoff of Tyranids

Anonymous

Kinda disappointed with the new sci-fi army being a rework of an army that already exists, especially with so many factions that don't have OPR models made yet. I started right as AH was finishing the first time, and went back and paid for most of the others, with a whole army of them printed out. Hopefully the Human Empire is worth it.

Tam

It’s funny because I’m super glad they’re reworking them. I had noticed their lower detail and it’s an army I enjoy so I don’t mind even better models. Here’s hoping they could make the robot legion look even more menacing too in the future. They almost look friendly

Fordy Kay

I think they all look great and I love battle sisters but some of the barrels are droopy or twisted and it's messes with me because firing through that is instant death for the user lol

Leaf

Considering Blessed Sisters were also a remake/fleshing out of an older army, I'd be kinda in favour of a new faction coming after it rather than going back over models I already got. Else we'll just be in a spiral of recycling old armies forever, something I call "The Primaris Zone"

Boss Salvage

The new big bugs look superb 👾

scabrat

I get as excited on the preview as I do the releases each month! Thanks for an awesome roadmap!

Tobias Moll

So i have a Question. I wanted to Buy the Alien Army in April, but u say u rework them. So i shouldnt buy them right? because i get the new ones anyway threw Patreon.

Terence Kelly

Very good update, I was hoping that the Hives would get an update. Thanks for the great work.

onepagerules

If you stay subscribed to Patreon over the next few months you will get the new updated version of the army, yes. If you wanted to older look of the models, you could buy the older ones.

Tam

Hoping for genestealer umm soulsnatcher cult!

Steenbok

where do we get the extra missions from that the list offers?

Liam Milross

hahahah the dreaded primaris zone! Meanwhile the pointy eared space folk are being continuously neglected by big plastic AND the resin underground :'(

Liam Milross

Will some of the sculpt refreshes bring them closer to WYSYWIG in 'other' game systems? For example, the warriors getting 4 arms?

Leaf

As for me I'm looking for some GSC. Nobody's done a full Soul Snatcher Cult STL army, at least I haven't found one. Hoping we get something like that after the Alien Hive release, now that that's locked in.

Excited for the alien hives rework!

Jeremy Bernhardt

These are OPR models for GF/GFF. Other games are irrelevant. As much as everyone wants this to be a cheaper alternative to those Nottingham chaps, they can't seem to ever fully let that game go. As long as they represent the OPR model's rules in the game, it doesn't matter if they work for something else. That said, I'd expect that anything possible in the OPR army lists will get a sculpted option, like the other factions recently. They refreshed the AoF Saurians a while back to add missing models and options, so it sounds like this will be all of what we got there, and some newer models. (look at that new Burrower above compared to the current one https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-alien-burrower-171782)

Liam Milross

You're kidding yourself.... Nottingham loadouts are absolute bug standard for OPR... and should stay that way.

John Pacey

Well, I will say I am excited for humans! I've seen a lot of comments about less hype for humans but I like to represent the home species lol

I've given this a few days thought before commenting, and I don't expect my opinion to carry any weight, but the alien hive rework is incredibly disappointing. I already purchased them, so that feels really bad. Most armies don't have any models from OPR, so revisiting old models in lieu of something new kinda stings. I like the idea of revisiting older models to update them, but I really feel like taking up months of release time is pretty far from optimal, at least for me, but it seems like I am not entirely alone here. Maybe in the future you guys could take a month between factions to update old models, at least as a compromise, instead of effectively punishing those of us who already own the armies and get limited benefit from the updates, it is a similar feel to the release of yet another primaris lieutenant while I'm still using twenty year old Eldar models.

Erik Waring

Wasn't too excited for the Human Empire as Dutchies of Vinci already kinda fills that role so I was really hoping for a knock-your-socks-off sci-fi army... Not one I already have. I know the world doesn't revolve around me so see y'all sometime late summer.

Erik Waring

Most of the heavy weapons that look like something from Dr Seuss really skunked the whole army for me. That and the lack of anything remotely feminine in the female army.\

Just throwing my paper into the hat, so to speak. I understand the sentiment of folks who've expressed dissatisfaction with the AH re-release... BUT as someone who is SUPER PUMPED to get to add all of those sweet sweet buggies to the collection as a T2 sub?! It is such a bro move on the part of OPR to give an army, AGAIN!! I will deff be spending more money with OPR, as the re-release is just another hook into my proverbial lip that makes me stay with OPR. Thanks for what you guys do!

Ellie

Don't like that you are doing a rework on stuff Many of us have already payed lots of money for. I wish this would be done as bonuses or do a Kickstarter for them for those who wanted an update on them. But would rather have a new set that we did not have yet. Oh well. Just wanted to throw my two cents in.

Anonymous

and GW has just announced that their T is being updated, you can see the connection this makes me fell a litlle more sad

Robert Bomer

Love the AH rework and release model, very consumer friendly, very thoughtfully implemented, it's a great value for those that already have the files and an amazing value for those of us who have not. Hey, any idea when or if the Dragon Trappers Lodge armies will be added to the army builder?

Anonymous

Yeah, the whole thing is full of feels bad, and that is exactly what drove me to OPR in the first place

Chris Bryant

AH was the whole reason I signed up! can't wait to see the new models next to my existing army!

Anonymous

Very excited for the AH rework! I missed them the first time so this will be fantastic value for me!

Anonymous

this has been planned for at least a year. on the discord there is concept art posted dating back to June 2022.

Anonymous

Wasn't around in June, still doesn't make the outcome feel better, and I'm honestly not sure what your point is. If I plan to do something that will make people unhappy, does that make them happier?

Nytram

Any chance we will see a model for the Rapacious Beast in the rework? I have a full AH army printed, but haven't found a satisfactory model yet.

C.W. Elliotte

I don't understand what you mean by the lack of femininity as it's an all-female army. That being said, if you don't like a weapon, those are generally the easiest things to kitbash either physically or digitally, so I wouldn't let that get in the way of getting mileage out of these awesome sculpts.

C.W. Elliotte

Cool stuff! It'll be nice to get those missing weapons, and I started supporting in the middle of this release, so it'll be cool to get the models I was missing. AH are super fun to paint as well, so it'll be nice to have an excuse to crank some out.
