Hey guys,

As you might have already read here or on the forum, we are currently making a big update to the Wormhole Daemons and the Rift Daemons, because we recognized that they didn't get the love that they deserved.

In today's update we'd like to talk a little about what is changing and why, so that you have a better idea of how the army is improving and how you can use it on the battlefield.

First off, here the short version:

- New units: Daemon Champions and Crab Walkers

- Increased the Defense value of all units

- Change now gives Stealth and Plague now gives Regeneration

- Heroes now have extra melee weapon options

- Heroes now have ranged weapon options

- Heroes can now take Symbols of Havoc at 3 different strengths and ranges

- The standard Warriors of each havoc god now have extra melee weapon options

Now onto the long version...

*****

Daemon Champions & Crab Walker

Whilst both of these units already existed in some form in other army lists, they were not as readily accessible as they should  be, and honestly not as flavorful as they should be.

In order to fix that we have added a special version of each of these units for each havoc god, giving them that extra flavor that they needed.

Daemon Champions are basically larger and more powerful versions of regular champions, or smaller and weaker versions of greater daemons... depends on how you want to see them. They have different weapon options for melee and shooting, can take symbols of havoc, can have wings and some of them can also cast spells. Truly formidable!

Crab Walkers are giant monstrosities that pack a punch and act as a close/mid-range support. They can be armed with any combination of anti-infantry and anti-heavy options, and they can take quite a beating before going down.

Defense Values

In their current version daemons generally tend to have a low Defense value of 5+ to 6+. This was given with the idea that they are all unarmored and fleshy, so they shouldn't be able to take a lot of damage. That being said, it made them too easy to kill and not very fun to play.

In order to fix this we have given all daemon units +1 to their Defense value, so now they should be more resilient with with a Defense value of 4+ to 5+. This will put them on the same level as a regular HDF Soldier or Elf Warrior, which should hopefully even the playing field a little.

Change = Stealth / Plague = Regeneration

This one is a simple change that people have been requesting in order to avoid confusion, so we obliged. Not much else to say here. :)

Hero Weapon Upgrades

Historically daemon heroes were not very interesting in our games. They just had a few more attacks and could take more damage, but not much else. With the last patch we added Symbols of Havoc which gave them a little boost, but we felt that they could need more.

In order to make heroes more versatile we have given them new weapon options that they can take in order to take on different types of targets.

Their melee weapons now come with a standard version that has a flavorful special rule, then a hammer version which hits harder and finally a spear version that is designed to deal lots of wounds to single targets.

On top of that all heroes can now take a ranged weapon flavored to their havoc god, which should help them to deal with other ranged units. They have a basic 6" range version that can be used more defensively as well as a 12" range version that can be used more offensively.

Symbols of Havoc

The Symbols of Havoc were introduced in the last update already which gave champions a chance to damage units within 12" when activated. With the new daemons update we wanted to take this one step further by adding better versions of the Symbols of Havoc that could help you even more.

Daemon Champions can take a Great version of the Symbols of Havoc which has 24" range, making them a true menace for shooting units that try to cower at a distance.

Greater Daemons can take an even more powerful Exalted version which has 24" range as well as deals double the amount of hits, which will easily obliterate most basic infantry units.

Standard Warrior Weapon Options

Whilst it's already pretty awesome that you can upgrade all of your heroes with a ton of new stuff, we know that daemon armies are not purely made of heroes but usually contain tons of infantry.

In order to boost you daemon infantry lines all of the standard warriors can now have extra weapon options that they can take in order to specialize in different roles. These upgrades should help your basic units deal with different threats, putting them more up to par with basic infantry from other armies.

Aaaand that's it for the daemons update. All the files can be found in the secret folder, so you can already go and update your armies now! :)

Cheers,

Gaetano
