Hosen is not an actual Yato King, it's just a nickname given to him because of his power and authority. Yato don't have monarchy :) And Gintoki wasn't learning faster than Benizakura, you missed it when they said that he began "awakening" his skills from war, since he was retired for 10 years. Also I don't think Hosen had any kind of redemption. It's just the music set such mood. I see it more of a realization of how weak and pathetic he was, while Hinowa's sympathy was a reminder of why she's the "sun" that's far out of Hosen's league. At the end no one tried to save him like they did it with Itou in Shinsengumi Crisis Arc.
