Update 14/01/23: I have uploaded a new version which fixes Eve config not being multilayered and Scatterer sunflares not interacting with clouds, link below.

Eve should now look like this:

This is the long-awaited preview build for the volumetric clouds.

Included are configs for all the stock planets, except Jool (still under construction).

Recommended specs are a GTX 970/1060 for 1080p.

Steam deck is also supported and gets ~40 fps

Install instructions: Remove any existing config packs for EVE (BoulderCo, AVP, SVE, Spectra, 64k clouds, KSRSSVE, etc) then overwrite your GameData folder with the one included (you need to overwrite your EVE and Scatterer plugins with the new ones as well).

A separate build is available below for Mac and Linux.

Trees and rocky surfaces in the screenshots from Parallax.

Don't hesitate to share any feedback.

Feel free to share screenshots and videos anywhere you want :)

Enjoy and checkout the included readme.

All the files included in the download are All Rights Reserved except STBN which is licensed to nvidia.

I've tried using both RSS configs and neither of them seem to work. Whenever I load up the game, there are no clouds. I was wondering if I could get some help with this.

blackrack

Can you post your KSP.log file after running the game for a bit? You'll find it in the KSP directory.

Anonymous

Is sharing this now illegal?

Anonymous

Will this mod have RSS support in the future?

blackrack

There are some RSS configs linked above. On my side I will only make configs for the stock system though.

Dylan ÆsthetischerGrabwandler

I have EVE and this mod downloaded, and no matter what I do the clouds do not show up. I even tried messing around in the config editor, but no clouds. I've tried everything to my knowledge but the clouds still don't show up. Can somebody help?

blackrack

What's your screen resolution? If you can post your KSP log file I can look into it (it will be in the KSP directory, just upload it to google drive after running the game for a bit).

Dylan ÆsthetischerGrabwandler

This might be the wrong link but I copied "KSP Log" on google drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1umBJyn7mJogbHq09geZS__NH6gVAdoCj/view?usp=sharing

blackrack

You need to change the access restrictions on google drive so that it is accessible to everyone, as it is I can't open the file.

Dylan ÆsthetischerGrabwandler

I Changed Restricted access, maybe I can share it with you on google drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1umBJyn7mJogbHq09geZS__NH6gVAdoCj/view?usp=sharing

When browsing through the EVE config settings, I found a few menus such as atmosphere, city lights, terrain, and texture managers were empty and lacking configs. Is this normal or did I install something wrong?

blackrack

It's normal, I personally don't like how city lights look (just a texture directly overlayed on terrain) so don't include configs for them. Texture managers are useful for cubemaps (which I didn't use here because they run slower the way they are implemented in EVE). And the other features are obsolete and replaced by scatterer and parallax.

blackrack

Hey so I just looked and it looks like you didn't install anything? Scatterer and EVE are still on the old versions, the configs are missing and AVP is still installed. Remove AVP, use the scatterer and EVE and StockVolumetricClouds included in the above download, put them in your GameData.

blackrack

It's all included in the first link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10q87aKoOD3qTRYNIo9ElxIfK9aBY9GoF/view?usp=share_link

Dylan ÆsthetischerGrabwandler

I removed AVP, and downloaded scatterer, eve and Volumetric Clouds and put them in game data. Still no clouds, auroras or city lights. I must be missing something

blackrack

No worries. So I see you've put the whole "RaymarchedVolumetricsEarlyAccess14_01_23" folder into GameData, inside that folder there is an other GameData folder, the contents of which you need to move to your GameData. So for example instead of having the following structure GameData/RaymarchedVolumetricsEarlyAccess14_01_23/GameData/StockVolumetricClouds, you need to have GameData/StockVolumetricClouds. After you do that it should work.

Anonymous

Awesome, yeah I'd only be a fan if it didnt replace the normal ground textures. Thanks for the heads up!

Anonymous

Hello! I am using RSS/RO config from BananaMan ,but sometimes the clouds are disappear and I need to choose them manually through EVE's mod button at the bottom (cloud manager). Is this an expected behaviour? Great work Blackrack :)

blackrack

Not expected no, someone reported a similar issue that happens only with RSS that the clouds sometimes disappear when exiting map view. If you can send me your KSP.log file when it happens it'd help. I should probably test it myself with RSS as well.

Anonymous

Just happened! Every gameplay basically it does... KSP Log file : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Sqn5FaweeFzSKgfNbp_8fCL1D9QxLzTN?usp=sharing

Anonymous

Also there is a huge circular shadow on the ground, I do not know if this is a bug or something

Anonymous

Since you're making this, would a volumetric engine smoke mod be possible in the future?

Anonymous

Sure: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zufgkX5ruN9G6D8tVF-05d1g0NCyA6KI/view?usp=sharing Seems to be camera related, it changes the angle of the shadow depending on the camera view...Also about the RSS bug, clouds do not work a the first launch /simulation and it seems to work after the second one for some reason...Also on the kourou launch center that I am using it works completely randomly...I have to manually enable it most of the time and there is a LOT of popup on the ground (maybe irrelevant but just saying).

blackrack

I've never seen this before, does this go away if you remove volumetric clouds?

Anonymous

Is there an easy way to rollback volumetric clouds mod from RSSEVE?? In order to check...

Anonymous

Well...All glitches where gone after reinstalled everything without volumetric clouds and RSSVE config for SVC unfortunately. On stock KSP it works very well, but not with RSS :( Edit: Shadows thing happens again, must be an RSSVE thing I guess. So that is resolved :) Only clouds that are disappearing are a thing I guess. Edit2:Seems that disabling RSSVE clouds' shadows from the misc config file, deactivated the shadows bug fyi.

Anonymous

Also, as you can see at the printscreen below, clouds have a black outline when the camera is moving (this is from banana_man yt video, but it is happening in-game when moving tha camera at space center for RSSVE also)..Is there a known workaround for that or a bug to be resolved? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JAR4Gc6OojCKTQbsN7ApcT0vnQ5sfvvB/view?usp=sharing Sorry for bothering you, I love the mod and I am trying to help also :) I think that in stock KSP this never happens...

blackrack

This can happen in stock KSP but is indeed rare, it's caused by temporal reprojection, you can reduce it to fix it but it will reduce performance: https://github.com/LGhassen/EnvironmentalVisualEnhancements/wiki/Temporal-upscaling-and-noise-detiling

Anonymous

how do i turn off the clouds in scatterer and astronomer visual pack?

blackrack

What do you mean exactly? Scatterer just does atmosphere and water but no clouds

Anonymous

i have the clouds in your mod but also a bunch of 2d clouds, also when i go above 90km my fps goes down to about 8 but below 90km its 100 fps

blackrack

Delete the 2d clouds, delete old cloud packs like BoulderCo, AVP, spectra etc

blackrack

You'll have to extract it from the original BoulderCo config. Somewhere in there there is .cfg file with the city lights config you have to copy over, you also have to copy over the textures for the city lights and make sure the paths are correct. The config in question: https://github.com/WazWaz/EnvironmentalVisualEnhancements/releases/download/EVE-1.2.2-1/EnvironmentalVisualEnhancements-Configs-1.2.2.1.zip

Anonymous

Literally what i was looking for. i had been downloading old EVEs and trying to find just this. 13 min reply time on a reply to a 7day old message. Fire. EDIT: Just for anyone else that wanted City lights: i got them to work with the current EVE by just gutting "BoulderCO" and removing anything that wasn't the lights. so its an independant mod now that gives lights, didnt have to worry about pathing or anything. and from the 'cube' file, i just removed the parts involving any place but Kerbin. Side bonus, i can see the dark shadows of these Boss clouds on the darkside too.

Does Duna have seasons or something like that? because once there were dust storms every day or two, but now they just stopped.

blackrack

Kinda, both small and big dust storms are on a cycle and will disappear for a week or 2 respectively before resuming.

Anonymous

For some reason all my clouds are black and my atmosphere is non extistent, is there a fix for this?

Anonymous

where should i send it to you as i dont think i can share the log file via Patreon

Anonymous

Is there a way to make the dust clouds on Duna thicker? Like, WAY thicker. I'm trying to recreate the trailer for The Martian in ksp, and I'm tryna get almost 0 visibility

blackrack

Did you see the big sandstorm already or just the small diffuse ones? Anyway to make it thicker increase the density in the cloudtype named "front" in the cloud layer named "duna-duststorm-big". You will have to adjust stepsize as well to avood noise, see here https://github.com/LGhassen/EnvironmentalVisualEnhancements/wiki/Raymarched-cloud-configuration#cloudtypes

Anonymous

I probably only saw the small diffuse ones, because all I've seen so far are a general haze in some of the lower elevation areas. Wheras storms like the ones on this reddit post https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/13cayio/bob_cant_escape_the_sand_storm/ are much more distinct, and appear to be darker as well. Is there a way to trigger them on command? or should I just timewarp until one spawns.

blackrack

You can timewarp but it takes a while. If you want them to always be active, open the UI with ctrl+alt+0, find the layer "duna dust storms diffuse" and delete it with the "-" button, then find the layer "duna dust storm big", inside it's settings there is a node called "timesettings" uncheck it and click apply. The big duststorm will now always be active and you can press save if you want this to still be this way on game reload. Now you just have to timewarp a bit until the storm front hits you, you can see where it is on the map view, it should look like this: https://youtu.be/uD4em3XhJsw

Hi, For some reason when i downloaded this mod it removed all the clouds?

blackrack

Can you send me your KSP.log file after running the game and getting that issue? You will find it in the KSP directory.

Anonymous

Hello, Thanks for the reply. I realized i needed to uninstall spectra and it is all working now. Thank you anyway!

Anonymous

Hi, Awesome visual. I love it. But some obvious things are missing for my part. I get the clouds, even the big hurricane system and have been flying through many times, but I get no sound effect, no lighting, no rain either. CORRECTION: Alright, I found the rain and lightning but no thunder heard. My aurorae are also completely absent. I have no idea what I did wrong, but I guess I've fucked something up. Are those features the default settings? Do I have to flush then reinstall all my visual modes to activate it?

blackrack

You're commenting on the previous release here, go to the new one for all these features. There is no aurora btw.

blackrack

Did you figure this out ir it's still not working? Do you see lightning flashes but hear no sound? How far away are you from the lightning when that happens? Do other sounds like engine sounds, rain sounds etc work?

Anonymous

Hi Blackrack, and anyone else who might have had this problem With a fresh install and few mods, when I add the GameData folder to my games root directory, the atmosphere doesn't load, I can play the game, but the world is black. I deleted the .cfg files from the BoulderCo etc folders In my logs, it doesn't seem like anything is wrong, I can share a google Drive link to anyone who can help. Thanks

blackrack

Can you upload some screenshots of what you're seeing and your KSP.log file?

Anonymous

Here is the folder with the screenshots and the log: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ZEpgUq2_HyiqZhnjaVFSnRs4x639KZzG?usp=sharing I have parallax 2 installed manually EVE redux without default config option No spectra, AVP etc Also no scaterrer, this time. I've had it installed before. The only scatterer folder in GameData now is the one that came with the unzipped download in GameDate. I dragged the GameData folder into the game root, which overwrote the previous. Have also tried moving individual folders, but same result, I would expect this to be an identical process.

blackrack

You have the wrong version of Scatterer installed, it is not the one from the download, fix that.

Anonymous

hello. I just download the mod and it looks beautiful, but i wanted to ask how i could get the thick clouds that are shown off in some videos I've seen about the mod. I did try to read your github guide but i couldn't really understand much

blackrack

What are you seeing now? (Upload screenshots to imgur.com) and which videos are you referring to? All you have to do is follow the install instructions in the post above.

Connor O'Donohue

weird thing for me here, ive downloaded the mod and none of the clouds are showing up, just the scatterer mod not even the EVE mod is showing, anyone help ? Edit: Dw i figured it out

Shiv Mungra

Looking great! My only complaint is the random pixelated "sphere" that appears around me when I enter a storm. Appears to be some form of post processing but I find it odd.

blackrack

Can you share a screenshot? There's a few limitations to temporal upscaling and the raymarching method used that result in a few effects like that. I fixed a few of them for next version but some remain. Curious to see which one you mean.

Mikołaj Parvi

I see a second cloud config for kerbin with higher clouds. Is it possible to make it primary somehow or just delete the previous to make it work and should i change the weather configs to higher altitude after that?

blackrack

You mean the thin high altitude clouds? Or somethong else? Can you send secreenshots? (Use imgur.com)

Word's can't describe how insane it is that you've managed to do this on a almost 12 year old game. Mind you, this is what was considered good years 9 years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqXOloUpB4M

Anonymous

Do you have any plans for integrating this with Kerbal Weather Project? It would be a insane combination. The only feedback I have is rain, implementing sound or visual noise would make it allot better. Right now looks amazing but going through it feels blank. Otherwise, everythings amazing so far.

Anonymous

This is incredible! Holy shit, the game is on a whole new level. I hope you make mods for ksp2 aswell

blackrack

Thank you, I'm looking forward to KSP 2 releasing, to break it down and tinker with it
