A number of years back, I wrote a novel called Brick and Mortar. It was a pretty decent story, but I never sought publication on it because it was fanfiction of the World of Warcraft universe, and I doubted that a nobody such as myself would have any luck getting Blizzard to show an interest in publishing it.

But here's the thing, Brick and Mortar is really just a fantasy adventure, and I used the WoW universe to attract readers who were already a fan of the universe. Minotaurs, zombies, orcs... all of those are fantasy staples, so it probably wouldn't be so hard to rewrite and make it a generic fantasy book.

I'm not in a much better position now than I was then—I'm still a nobody—but now I'm a nobody with a fair number of amazing fans. I don't think I'd seek out a mainstream publisher on this any more than I have on the Hayven Celestia content, but I'm curious what you think. Should I do a rewrite of B&M and put out a novel?

Please vote and leave me comments!

[For those who haven't read it, B&M is the story of a minotaur who feels bad about killing an enemy soldier and seeks out a way to atone for what he's done. It's got romance, fighting, strong characters, and as you can always expect from me, an exploration of what makes these races different from humans.]

This sounds great, actually. I hope you publish it!

I think you could do your own fantasy setting instead

Greg

Right. Rewriting it would involve rolling a fresh fantasy setting.

I voted other, because at this rate Blizzard is going bankrupt and you can just use WoW as free domain lmao. In all seriousness though, write what you want.

Greg

I'm definitely not bored with HC, but there is an awful lot of allure in finishing an almost-complete book. It would be very nice to bring out a new one without starting from scratch.

I'm always a +1 for anything fantasy! Not that Hayven Celestia isn't cool, sci-fi (space related) always hits less for my genre thirsts heheh. Work smart not hard and all that! I don't think I've read that one? afaik?

Greg

Well, then it'll be all the more special if I start rewriting and post it here!

I feel that any author should be able to experiment outside their normal genre

I went "Other" because as a WoW fan, I'd really REALLY love to read the original as well as the rewritten version! <3

OhWolfy

I would love to read that.

I am much more into sci-fi than I am fantasy. That being said, I don't want to say you should stick to one genre just because I like what you write. You may find more success as a fantasy author. So I want you to work on whatever you like.

Voted other, because my thought basically is if you can make it work and it’s a small rewrite why not? If you can put as much emotion and story into it as your other published works I doubt it will be a dull story

The story is nice. In the ten+ years you've now been writing and published several stories, I do feel you have a lot of capacity to make this into a really good story. I know the road will be tough, like normal, but I'm hoping we can help, and the poll seems really receptive of your work. I'll go on to finally read your first, revised chapter.
