The circuitry of this particular weapon was already long outdated by modern standards, when most of the alpha quadrant’s powers had made the switch over to far more efficient, robust, and faster isolinear circuitry, but that was hardly needed in a weapon that was meant to be used only once. Indeed, the duotronic circuitry was more cost effective and more durable in the long-term, and less prone to malfunction as it was far less advanced than isolinear circuitry. The Cardassians weren’t stupid. Evil fucks, sure, but the Federation could take a few lessons from them.
