Even though Demi was close to her queen and sire—closer than anyone—a lot of her was still a mystery, and Carmilla was even more illusive about revealing much about herself.
So she presented Demi with a choice. If she truly wished to know the secrets of Carmilla, then she would have to traverse her ancient bloodline herself. It would be a dangerous path, and if Demi wasn't careful, her blood might consume her if she went too far.
Consuming carmilla's blood was a dangerous task in itself; her blood was potent to the point that it was impossible; instead, it would consume anyone who dared, but Demi was accepted.

I've always been keen to jump into this one, but never got around to it or delayed and only sketched things in the past, so this one shoud be fun!
