I really couldn't resist, I had to make the executive call to watch this one. Happy Memorial Day! I'm spending mine in New York with family <3

I was hoping you would like this one. Seemed right up your alley. The soundtrack is so good but hard to find now. I didn’t feel like it was low budget at all, just style choices. Maybe that is a sign of good filmmaking or maybe the film only needed what it needed. Get a famous actor and a movie could run $20-30 million more. I had to go back and check and yeah a lot of iconic 80s movies came after this one… Weird Science, Back to the Future, Ferris Bueller. I may watch some more Tom Cruise dramas myself to see if they’re worth recommending. I’m glad you liked it.

I saw this in the theater as a teenager, and wear ray bans to this day because of the movie, and Rebecca DeMornay was a revelation. This is a movie that I think the casting director made. The story isn't particularly clever, but it's a vehicle for some amazing performances from relative unknowns at the time. Joey Pants with hair? Bronson Pinchot? Curtis Armstrong went on to being a staple in the Nerds franchise. Tom Cruise in the lead isn't a huge gamble after Taps, The Outsiders and Rumblefish, but he still showcases comedic moments inside a drama that gave a good idea that he was going to be THE leading man for the next 30 years.
