Excellent movie. Director Paul Verhoeven's action movies of this era were very heavy in satire: exaggerating the good guys, bad guys, action and presenting a very cynical view of a callous and reactionary future. A future that we've moved directly toward in many ways, in the decades since.

Love this movie. For some reason my heart always breaks when I see Robocop in the parking garage, withstanding all that gunfire from his former colleagues. Oh, how that guy recognised him at the gas station was because of the line he said. Murphy said "Dead or alive you're coming with me" before he got killed, and Robocop says the exact same thing to him at the gas station. The soundtrack is excellent too, by Basil Poledouris. Hopefully you'll check out the Conan the Barbarian movies (they have Arnie at his most built) because the score for those is just awesome. Arnie and the director of Robocop made a (much bigger budget) movie called "Total Recall" together ("Dick Jones" is in it too), and it's also excellent.
