The One With the Baby Carrot- Thank you for another fun reaction, Magy! I enjoy this episode overall, just as I like every episode as a whole. However, for me... this is one of my least favorite episodes this season, and throughout the entire show. I think that what easily stands out to me the most throughout this episode, is watching Lucifer continue to lash out irrationally and act so restless, while he refuses to back down from finding out who the Sinnerman is, and why this new villain has apparently come out to target him. I also love how Lucifer is so adamant about cutting his wings off time and time again in spite of how painful and exhausting doing so is for him, because of what his wings represent to him. Once again, just as he always does, Lucifer takes this case quite personally and then comes to learn more about himself through it and with Linda's help too. I also really love how Linda, through her time spent with Amenadiel, comes to see that Lucifer's efforts to rid himself of his wings are acts of self harm that come from much deeper feelings Lucifer has refused to acknowledge about himself, and I really love how she tries to encourage him to accept for now that his wings are back in hope of helping him so that he won't keep harming himself. Because she really cares about him. And she really cares for Amenadiel too. And I love this about her so much. Sadly... Lucifer doesn't really listen, because like always... he takes her words and twists them around for his own agenda. Oh, Lucifer. There are a number of great scenes throughout this episode that stems from these plots of the episode. But I will come back to my favorite scenes shortly... Now... Chloe and Ella both feel a bit off for me throughout this episode. As does Chloe's relationship with Lucifer and I feel that this is mostly because her character is off, because Chloe to me feels much more strict, or maybe more pessimistic than she usually is. And more harsh towards Lucifer because of his typical "Luciferness". And I have to admit that I really don't like this strange development in her character. I suppose I understand it a little, but she just seems a little too out of character. And as for Ella... while I always love how perky she is, she definitely seems more blind towards people's cold attitudes. We see this in regards to her being blinded to Pierce's harshness or callous attitude towards everyone, and with the comedian she seems so strangely infatuated with. And again... I don't really like this either. But I will get back to Ella in a bit... Now... the very beginning where Lucifer is with another woman in his penthouse is pretty funny, when his wings suddenly return again much to his frustration. It's especially funny when the woman thinks Lucifer is really into cosplay in spite of her suddenly seeing them spring out of his back, and asks him to leave his wings on, which immediately turns Lucifer away from any desire for sex. Sadly... we see him pull out one of Maze's Hell blades so that he can cut them off again. Next... I like how Chloe tries to encourage Lucifer to stop obsessing about the Sinnerman and to try not to show off his "Luciferness" in front of their new Lieutenant because she's worried about Pierce splitting them up. I really love and appreciate how much she truly wants to protect Lucifer, whether he's willing to help himself or not. She is a bit harsher with him than usual I think, but at least she isn't so completely different that we can't see she still cares about him and their partnership. It's also funny that Pierce walks in on Lucifer and Chloe talking about the Sinnerman, causing him to think that they're actually talking about Nina Simone's song also titled, The Sinnerman, which is actually a nod back to season one's episode, Favorite Son... when Lucifer is singing and playing this song on his piano during the episode's opening. Brilliant! Next... I love how excited Ella is throughout most episodes and I even love how she begs Chloe and Lucifer to let her join them in their investigation within this episode too, when they go to meet their prime suspect, whom Ella actually really likes. And normally, I love when she's really just so nice and chooses to see the good in everyone until she can't any longer. I really love this about Ella and it's why she has very quickly risen up to be one of my favorite characters outside of Lucifer and Chloe. Her perkiness is adorable! :) But with that being said... I hate that she is so oblivious to his cruelty because it's a bit of a stretch for her character to be that blind. And the same goes for her glee upon meeting Pierce, and her continuing to see him like he's the kindest and most joyful person she's ever met even when he treats everyone so harshly and continues to act so cold towards everyone. Her attitude towards Pierce is annoying to me. As for the case itself... I don't really care much for it at all. In fact... for me, this episode's case is my least favorite case throughout the entire show. Mostly because I really don't like the subject matter or the motive behind this case. And while I like how Lucifer continues to tease Dan about him taking improv and that Chloe learns about him taking the classes, I really don't like the entire comedy scene either. Partly because I feel badly for Dan, but mostly because it's just a crude and inappropriate scene. For me... this kind of subject matter isn't comedy. It's not funny in the slightest. But I will say that Chloe's reactions to his jokes while they're talking inside the precinct is a bit funny. However, I will say that I do really like how Lucifer and Chloe are able to take their killer down upon working together, as Lucifer keeps the real killer distracted long enough by talking to her as the Devil to get her to confess, while Chloe works to untie the sandbag that she drops behind her so that Lucifer can then punch her out. I love that while Lucifer has lost his Devil face, Lucifer is still extremely intimidating and terrifying, and this is all thanks once again to Tom Ellis' fabulous acting skills. Without his Devil face, Lucifer can still show so much anger and hatred in his eyes, and it's brilliant, as well as terrifying! And yes... the lighting throughout the scene where he confronts the comedian's killer is marvelous. It only adds to the fear he brings into his eyes to scare those he confronts. Love it! Next.. I hate how cold Pierce continues to be towards Dan throughout this episode as well. And while I normally find Lucifer's teasing of Dan to be funny, I just really feel more bad for Dan than anything else. There are a few brief funny moments between Lucifer and Dan in this episode, especially when Lucifer teases him about having run out of tomatoes in the ending, but not like there normally is. Now back to my favorite parts about this episode... I love how Pierce has taken a special interest in Lucifer, as he's first seen towards the beginning spying on Lucifer through a pair of binoculars from his car. I love how intrigued you are by Pierce and his interest in Lucifer, as well as in the mystery that surrounds him and his involvement with the Sinnerman. I really like the mystery surrounding him as well. :) I love how Pierce warns Lucifer to stay away from the case involving the Sinnerman and to refrain from angering him, while Lucifer continues to refuse to back down. And I certainly can't blame him for being unable to leave it all alone in spite of Pierce's and Chloe's warnings to him. From a human's perspective, I can understand everyone's concern about the Sinnerman, as well as their disbelief in his existence, given that he's known as a boogie man and ghost story. From our viewpoint, I can understand why it would be wise for Lucifer to listen to the warnings, knowing just how dangerous the Sinnerman very well may be. However, from Lucifer's viewpoint, I can also understand why he can't back down. Lucifer has struggled very deeply from being manipulated his whole life, and unfortunately... because the Sinnerman may be tied to how his wings have returned and why his Devil face is gone, of course he can't just let this go. His life has been altered once again, and Lucifer is desperate to learn the truth about the Sinnerman once and for all. And I really love his drive for finding answers. And lastly... I really love how Linda's concern for Lucifer comes from her time spent with Amenadiel throughout this episode as well. I like how she offers to help him dispose of Lucifer's wings he's cut off multiple times. And while I appreciate that she comes to understand Lucifer a little more in doing so, Linda makes a point that by him cutting off his wings over and over, he is self mutilating. Much like a person who is dangerously depressed cuts themselves on their wrists to manifest their pain physically so they don't have to feel inwardly consumed by their pain. And I absolutely love this comparison. Plus... Lucifer believes himself to be the Devil and we've seen that a part of him believes himself to be a monster who hurts all of those he truly cares about. So I think that for Lucifer... having his wings back and forced upon him makes him feel like a liar, or a hypocrite, since angelic wings such as his represent something good. A being that is good. And while Lucifer started off as an angel, his entire family and the entire world all see him as nothing more than a Devil as he's come to believe about himself. His wings to him are nothing but torment because they don't make sense to who he believes himself to be. So I really understand Lucifer's need to rid himself of them, as sad as seeing, or knowing he harms himself really is. I also really love how Linda comes to know Amenadiel more as well. I like the cute banter between them as Linda attempts to create a nickname for him by calling him simply "Amen", which she funnily realizes by the end doesn't work for him. But more so... I really love how Linda helps Amenadiel to understand what God's test for him really is after he's spent so long trying to understand God's plans for himself, just as Lucifer has struggled with for so long as well. And I love, love, love that Amenadiel's test... is to help Lucifer, which is the start of a lot of good coming between the brothers in the upcoming episodes. I've always really enjoyed the relationship between Lucifer and Amenadiel, especially once they really started bonding more as brothers after Amenadiel finally stopped trying to send Lucifer back to Hell in season one's finale... Take Me Back to Hell. Now that Amenadiel has come to see that Lucifer needs his help more than he's ever understood before, I love their relationship all the more. Oh... and I also love and appreciate Lucifer's very small quip about one of the comedians' imaginary friends in his show looking like a character from one of my all time favorite kids' shows from growing up... Fraggle Rock. What a fun nod! And I was shocked and yet thrilled. Shocked... because I didn't think anyone really remembers Fraggle Rock any longer. Makes me wonder if this line was scripted, or if Tom Ellis adlibbed this line, which would mean that he might have been a fan of Fraggle Rock when he was a child as well. I hope so, because... to channel my inner Ella... "That would be so awesome!!" And the nod to Tom Ellis' role in Doctor Who is fantastic too. I am a fan of Doctor Who as well and I really loved Tom Ellis' role in the season three episode of Doctor Who too. I would have loved to see Tom Ellis star as the Doctor. Tom Ellis would have made a phenomenal Doctor. However, I am so happy he chose to become Lucifer instead, because he is absolutely phenomenal as Lucifer Morningstar, and no one can play him any better. This show wouldn't be nearly as good without Tom Ellis. And I do have to admit that Tom Ellis playing Lucifer is mostly what has drawn me into watching this show in the first place. Because Tom Ellis is absolutely gorgeous and just fabulous all around. I'm not a "Lucifan"... I swear. Ha! Ha! Ha! :) Thank you again, so much for another fun reaction!! I'm always so excited to see when you've posted new reactions for more Lucifer. I love how much you appreciate and enjoy the shows you watch. This is such a great season, so many twists and turns
