God Johnson- Another fantastic episode, and another fun reaction! I absolutely love the possibility that God might have really come to Earth. And I love that we finally get a chance to see Lucifer finally express his anger and pain to the man he comes to believe is his father, when God supposedly comes down to Earth for a time, having taken over the body of a man named Earl Johnson, yet who calls himself God Johnson after becoming possessed by a powerful belt buckle that is actually a piece of Azrael's blade. I love the idea of bringing God into the major story arc for the sake of giving Lucifer a chance to share his feelings towards his father, but also because the Goddess of all Creation is on Earth as well. First... I absolutely love the actor chosen to play God Johnson throughout this episode. Timothy Omundson, who is best known for his roles in the TV series'... Psych as Lassie or Detective Carlton Lassiter, and Galavant as King Richard, and for other guest starring roles within more shows too. He's also in a number of movies as well, but his roles in them for the most part are fairly small. But I absolutely love Timothy Omundson because he's really hilarious, and I love how he plays the role of God in Lucifer as well. He's charming, funny, and absolutely brilliant! And he's perfect for this role as God Johnson, given that he looks and sounds like someone who could be God very much so. Timothy Omundson is one of my all time favorite comedic and dramatic actors in TV. It's always a pleasure to see him guest starring in an episode or two of a show I enjoy watching. If you like him in this role, and you are interested in seeing him in a major role... I would highly recommend the TV series titled... Psych. Timothy Omundson is marvelous in this show. I absolutely love his dry humor. But back to Lucifer... one of my favorite moments within this episode comes in the very end, after God Johnson has become Earl Johnson again, and Lucifer talks to Earl about what he might remember from being possessed by the divinity within the belt buckle. I really, really love how Lucifer thanks Earl for telling him the things he had while he believed himself to be God. The things that Lucifer wishes his father would really say to him and, yet sadly believes his father will never say to him. I also love how furious Lucifer is when he opens up about knowing now that God would never even apologize to him, would never forgive him, or tell him he loves him, which is why Lucifer now hates his father all the more. And I love how Lucifer ignites the red anger within his eyes just before the screen fades to black and the credits roll. Absolutely brilliant!! Next... I love that a majority of this episode is set within a mental hospital once a case leads Lucifer and Chloe to investigate the death of one of the hospital's orderlies. And I love that their investigation quickly leads Lucifer to meet God Johnson. But more so... I love how much Lucifer denies that this man could actually be his father, even after God Johnson calls him by his angelic name... Samael when Lucifer never even introduced himself as Lucifer Morningstar, which I love too. And it's fantastic when Lucifer swiftly punches God Johnson in the face, out of pure instinct that comes from his anger. And I love how in order to discover the truth behind who God Johnson really is, that Lucifer admits himself into the hospital as an insane patient, simply by being himself to make himself appear crazy since no one ever believes he's really the Devil. And seeing Lucifer interact with the other mental patients is pretty hilarious. Seeing him play poker with the imaginary cards and poker chips to try to get information about why God Johnson supposedly killed their victim, only to be told that some of them saw someone they believed to be Santa Claus standing over the body. I also love Lucifer's later interactions with them when he enlists the other patients to help him and God Johnson to escape from the hospital. It's a great montage moment along with a great song being played in the background as they both walk together through the chaos. And towards the end... I absolutely love the scenes with Lucifer and God Johnson, when they've been drugged by the nurse. Only... because the power within the piece of the blade protects God Johnson, he isn't affected by the drugs in his system. Whereas Lucifer becomes very affected by the drugs in his system because Chloe is still inside the hospital and remains within close enough proximity to him, making him vulnerable. I love his interactions with God Johnson, who finally tells Lucifer all that he's longed to hear from his father for all these years since he had cast him out of Heaven and into Hell. A very sad and emotional moment. I also love seeing Lucifer so loopy, while he actually begins to question whether or not he really is the Devil because he's so drugged up when Nurse Kipsey tries to convince him he's not the Devil. Thankfully... Chloe saves them both just in time before Lucifer and God Johnson can be killed, and I love seeing how concerned she is for Lucifer all throughout this episode upon coming to worry that her partner may really be losing himself to what she still continues to believe are only his metaphors... or worse, what she fears may have become his delusions. I also really love seeing how worried Chloe is upon rescuing Lucifer and finding him so drugged up and in danger of being killed. These scenes with Lucifer so doped up on the heavy medications the nurse gave to him, and just all throughout this episode are all just so funny. And once more... brilliant acting by Tom Ellis. I will say this a lot in my comments throughout your reactions, because I absolutely love him and I just can't help it. I apologize for repeating myself. While you fangirl over Maze and Lesley-Ann Brandt like most viewers for this show always do, I completely fangirl over Lucifer and Tom Ellis in every episode. :) Next... I love the twist with the killer turning out to really be Nurse Kipsey disguised as Santa Claus upon wearing the mask and Santa hat. I love her motivation for killing the orderly upon him discovering her secret, and for nearly killing the other patient who turns out to be her own mother. Because the orderly caught her drugging her mother, who is in the hospital in the first place upon having been drugged up for years by her own daughter. It's sad that Kipsey reveals that she was mentally and verbally abused her whole life... possibly worse, by her mother. An excellent motive for a very sad, yet interesting backstory for her character. And yet... she still in the wrong for seeking to kill her mother in such a cruel way. and it's as Lucifer tells her... she killed an innocent man to prevent being caught. So therefore, she deserves to be punished. Also... I enjoy the scenes between Chloe, Maze, and Amenadiel throughout this episode as well, as Maze and Amenadiel make things very awkward for Chloe on her fake date with the hospital's warden, who is very sweet. I really like this actor... Alimi Ballard, and his character. I've seen the actor in several other shows such as Numb3rs and Sabrina the Teenage Witch as well, and I've always really liked him. Numb3rs is another phenomenal show too! But Maze and Amenadiel are hilarious while Chloe's on her date with Doctor Garrity. Now... I also love Linda throughout this episode as well, especially when she meets God Johnson, believing him to be God. She's so adorable when we see her become so flushed and bumbly simply by standing before God, and seeing Lucifer push her around in a wheelchair after she was close to fainting upon having met God. I especially love how Linda helps Lucifer put his plan to bring God and the Goddess back together again by parent trapping them. A great reference to a classic and fun movie. I really love the scenes between them all at LUX when Lucifer sets up a reenactment of his parents' first date in trying to bring them back together, in the belief that they will love each other again for a honeymoon period, until they come to see each other as enemies again. And I love how Charlotte suddenly knees God Johnson in the groin when she first realizes he might be her husband. I really like God Johnson's and Charlotte's interactions with one another while they're talking and dancing together. And I love the song that Lucifer plays for them while they're dancing together... Can't Take My Eyes Off You, originally sung by Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons. This song is also quite fitting for this storyline, given that some of it's words... "It's just too good to be true.", foreshadows Lucifer's come to realization that God Johnson isn't really his father after all. And in the end, his hope is dashed and it is very sad. Oh... and Ella is adorable within this episode too, especially when she's singing in her lab at the top of her lungs until Chloe comes in to talk to her about their case. I love how Ella is excited to share how their case makes her think of the song... What if God Was One of Us, sung by Joan Osborne, then she sings it too. So cute!!! And another great song too! I don't love it like she does, but it's still fun. :) Unfortunately... Chloe isn't able to save Lucifer and God Johnson before Nurse Kipsey manages to remove the belt buckle, and once she does, Earl Johnson is back to being himself, and no longer has any memories of his entire interaction with Lucifer while inside the hospital and out. He has no more memories of his entire time as God Johnson. I absolutely love the connections between these last several episodes starting with Weaponizer and Trip to Stabby Town, then finally to the previous episode... Deceptive Little Parasite, all of which involve the powerful pieces of Azrael's blade that Uriel spoke to Lucifer about before he died. I love that while Azrael's blade itself causes humans to act out their aggression and anger towards others, this piece of the blade causes the opposite affect by whoever is in possession of it. That it allows for them to heal and to have other God like qualities, as well as to give him all of God's knowledge, which is God Johnson's reasoning for believing himself to be God, and how the belt buckle comes to be Lucifer's theory as to how Earl came to know him to be Lucifer. Thankfully, the piece is now in Lucifer's possession as well, and now they supposedly have one more piece to find to make Azrael's blade work as its meant to. And lastly... I'm not a big fan of Charlotte going to Dan in the end in order to feel better about herself after she came to realize that God Johnson wasn't really her husband. I understand why she does, because she's feeling lonely and sad that her husband isn't coming to find her or willing to apologize for hurting her. I just don't trust her in the slightest, and I don't like how easily Dan accepts her apology and lets her into his apartment. It's just a twisted relationship that I don't care for. The same way I feel towards Maze's and Amenadiel's relationship within season one too. I just can't get behind any of them together, and I know that I am in the minority about this. Thank you so much for another fantastic reaction!!! Again... this is a fabulous episode and I can't wait for more to come!! Two more episodes and then you'll be into season three! Until your next reaction, dear friend... Thank you, Magy! Sincerely, Heidi
