For today's Archives post, we have everyone's favorite pirate woman, Beidou from Genshin Impact!

ARTIST NOTES

Did you know that Beidou is the first unit I ever pulled in Genshin Impact? And from that moment on, I was a man in love. Although I eventually pulled baddies like Mona, I always tried to keep Beidou on my team because her design just fucks. And when I kept seeing that one-piece underneath her outfit, I knew if I ever drew her, I'd want her dressed down to that.

My wish eventually came true when I was commissioned to draw her in 2022!

I still rather like how this drawing turned out. Her face is great! Pose is good! Rendering is solid! I really like her hair! And it feels like a pose that's natural for her! (the original drawing has her in the middle of the Lantern Rite festival so she's letting loose a bit)

Unfortunately this has never been a very popular piece, but that's okay! Fact is, semi-realism takes on characters that are usually super anime don't tend to resonate as much. I definitely went pretty western in my depiction of her, and I think that's just not as appealing to the core fanbase of Genshin, who likely leans overwhelmingly anime in their fan art preferences. But again, no biggie! I still like the piece and had fun drawing it, and that's what matters most.
