AOL 4.0 now available for alpha users! (Patreon)

We're happy to announce that our server now is compatible with AOL 4.0, the real deal, not a copy or "emulation", and it's now available to our beautiful supporters in tiers with alpha access. In all of it's glory, it's here; there's IMs, chat rooms, and more and more coming soon with regular updates.

As you can see, we plan to achieve total support, as faithful as it can possibly be, and just be a big hit of nostalgia to everyone. And, like AOL back in the day, you can talk to your AIM buddies on AOL and vice-versa!

Wanna join us, help us test the server, catch some bugs, hang out with a lot of great, fun people? We appreciate it! Thank you for all the love, support, and it's only gonna get better from here.

Note: the server is in Alpha stage, things may be broken or just not work yet. Expect some issues! We always try to fix issues ASAP or at the very least let you know what's going on.

Updates? Already? Yes:

In the time between our initial pre-alpha testing and the announcement, we already have some updates, just to show you how fast things are moving with our projects these days:

• Added all new chat list, with our own NINA original chat rooms

• You can now send non-US-ASCII characters in Chat and IMs

• Buddy chats and private chats implemented

• You can now receive chat "invite" messages

• Added weather to the welcome window to your location, updates every 30 minutes

• Chats are internally in new categories, as seen in aol://2719 URLs

• Opening a new chat closes the other one instead of throwing an error

Some other things to note:

• Mail does not yet work, but when it does it will be for other users only, not to/from the Internet, at least not for a while

• Channels do not currently work. Almost all of the original assets are missing, so it has to be rebuilt manually. We'll have it at some point soon.

• If you have any old main.idx files to send us, please do, especially if they signed on to AOL or CS2000 previously.
