I've always imagined magic users as small-scale reality warpers, that is they can change reality around them in a relatively small way for a limited time. There's no explaination for them being able to do these things that fits within the normal confines of existance. Creating fire from nothing, animating the long dead, freely rearranging atomic molecules to change something into something else. Although the Animas have arranged magic neatly into categories - as any sentient race would - in my mind magic can potentially do absolutely anything so long as the user has the capability. Therefor to me magic isn't itself in classes like "elemental" but that's just how people would categorize it since we strive to bring order to chaos.

It makes sense. Specifcally in Bethellium, "magic" is limited in it's reach and purpose. I created this concept of magic based on what historically has been considered magic. Our idea of magic goes about intent, and a strong enough will should allow to even bend reality into it's desires. But this reality "warping" always makes use of existing laws of the world. Only gods could aim to modifiy the rules in which the world is built. A magic user is essentially someone who can see and control the inner gears that make the world move. It's not that much about distorting reality, but manipulating the hidden rules of the world.

>Only gods could aim to modifiy the rules in which the world is built. That's something I didn't think about and a unique way of looking at it. I'm hoping gods make an appearence sometime. It would be neat to see how the animas react to an actual deity.
