Hey! VidCon's over, but there's still Disney Day which will take up all of my Sunday. So no G-Witch.

On Monday, there's still Insomniac After School.

I'll get G-Witch on Tuesday.

Oshi no Ko on Wednesday (YT cut of previous EP, and on Patreon full length of the last EP).

Yuri is My Job on Thursday.

And yada yada. You know the schedule lol.

ANYWAY.

I learned a few things from VidCon from both friends and some panels. So I'll be transparent with you. Every season, I try to do something a little different just to test if it works or not.

For summer, my plan is to cut down heavily on intros and get straight into the reaction (so no recaps or pre-discussion). AND, I'll be cutting down discussions to—at the very least—5 minutes. However, I'll still be talking as much as I want to on Patreon.

So basically, nothing much is changing on Patreon's side lol. I'm just doing this to see if I'll get a better retention rate on YT.

Not a lot of people watch the discussions anyway, so I might as well just put it on Patreon only for the people who care (or not). I personally don't like the idea of putting discussions in Patreon's native player because there aren't chapters, but I'll prob still put timestamps in the description.

We'll see how that goes for Summer.

ALSO.

I've watched some folks' full length that use Patreon's native player, and I find that the video lags. This makes it very annoying because the reaction and whatever I'm watching gets off sync.

But it made me think. Are you having any issue with Patreon's native player? No one has said anything, so I assume not, but I'm curious.

I do think there probably are merits to trimming down the non-reaction segments. I know of another channel I watch that also had pretty long pre and post-episode discussions and they also recently trimmed them down on YouTube specifically, so I'm assuming it's worth it. I've always considered the discussions to be a big part of why you'd watch a reaction channel in the first place, since that's where you really hear what they thought of the episode, and a lot of times they'll piece things together that they didn't during the reaction. Alas, analytics have proven my type to be in the minority, so it is what it is. :P I suppose being asked to spend 30+ minutes on a video is a tall ask, especially among the younger generation, or if they're just people that go around watching multiple reactions. And yeah, I've personally had no issues with the Patreon player.

i don't see anything wrong with having long discussions/breakdowns after each episode as long as it adds something interesting. i usually watch the full reaction on Patreon, skip the reaction on YouTube and just watch the discussion.

I assume you're talking about YaBoyRockLee? There are times when I only want to watch reactions and there are times when I'll watch the discussions as well haha. Although my pet peeve in long discussions is when they get off-topic. I'll test it out for summer and see how it goes. Skip and Loafer might still be the former (or current lol) format because I started it before the Spring anime season ended. Thanks for letting me know about the Patreon player!

The issue is that you're a part of the vocal minority. Only an avg of 5% of people watch the discussions all the way through, and that's not good on YT. Sucks, but if the majority only wants reaction and little discussions, I'll give it a go and see how that works for the summer.
