I think when Kurumi said she signed with a surgeon, it was for Chisato's heart surgery and not for his leg? But wow, they didn't even ask for Chisato's consent, they just knocked her out and performed the surgery lmao --- The last couple of episodes have also been a mixed bag for me. I feel like I should've seen this happy ending coming what with the focus on slice-of-life and how Chisato defies all expectations but... I don't know, I feel a bit empty and I'm not ecstatic about the ending because the stakes were so high for Chisato and Yoshi made a great villain. It also felt like Takina took a backseat ever since Yoshi started becoming more prominent as a character, so that felt unfortunate. I guess considering that she is essentially the second protagonist, I expected her to have more influence on Chisato's "fate," but I get that the writers wanted family matters to be settled within the family, which is surprisingly realstic compared to everything else going on lol I also think if they went down the route that you talked about (less slice-of-life, more nitty-gritty action and suspense) then they could totally pull of a dramatic bittersweet ending that would have us sobbing haha. But with the slice-of-life element, making a 180 and actually killing the main character off might've been too much of a shock or even unacceptable. In a way, LycoReco is like one of those shonen anime where no one important will die (for real) no matter what.

Ah. That makes sense about Chisato's heart surgery. Now I'm just thinking that Mika's been limping for YEARS even though his leg isn't busted lol. The way Mika did it w/o Chisato's consent makes me think of the ending of The Last of Us Part 1. I suppose with Takina, when she made her final decision of Chisato/LycoReco being her home, her story is kinda "finished" xD But yeah, they've been playing it off as a family thing since EP 5 or 6. I share your feeling of emptiness because if you don't think about this in a slice of life aspect, it feels like nothing was resolved. Majima's still around. DA is still up and running. Chisato still lives. We're going to go in circles once more. The comparison of a shounen anime is a nice one. Unfortunate as I would've been fine with Majima dying and Chisato knowing that she killed someone. Would've been fine with Chisato dying too, but I saw a headline for some news potentially for a season 2(?). Not sure on that one yet because I haven't looked into it.
